A game where Steve Walsh was supposed to spike the ball near the opponent's goal line, but instead fumbled it up in the air and it was run back 99 yards for a TD?
Or did I hallucinate that?

You're not crazy. I don't remember the details but I do remember he was faking a spike to catch the defense off guard and when he brought back the ball it flew out wildly. Think it did go back all the way too.

It wasn't a TD as I remember, just a fumble recovery. I thought it was against the Rams, too...

It was against the 49ers in San Fran. The fumble was returned for a touchdown.

And afterwards, he had a dumb look on his face while he kept repeating the spike motion.
Not to show the refs he spiked it, but as if he was thinking to himself, "I spiked the ball, didn't I? Like this. Yeah...YEAH, I SPIKED THE BALL LIKE THIS!"

fricking Steve Walsh.
I was at the first game he ever played for us and I remember he completed like his first 12 passes or some shite. The entire Dome felt like we finally had a QB.
I think he went on to throw one more completion the rest of the game.

The first thing I thought of when I read this was Rich Gannon running an 80 yard naked bootleg for TD. Does anyone remember this? I know it's not the topic, but just checking.

Yes, I remember this, and old Buford Jordan was the only one to chase after the guy. The rest of the crew just stood there.
