I got checked by him at least 3 times.I think he would submerge in an irrigation ditch breathing thru a straw if he thought he could catch you shooting too early. The guy terrorized the Little Missouri area North of Mer Rouge for 10 years.

I would like to hear your stories.

I thought he had died.

He worked the area around Monroe when I was coming up, never had a real issue with him, he was fair. Just have all your shite together.

One day he did be a little bit of a jerk to some friends:

Story goes like this: 3 guys, 1 short of limit in Russell Sage. Single comes in, 2 guys raise up and shoot, duck dead. All come out. Number of ducks right.

He asked, "Who wants the ticket for attempting to take over the limit" One of em took a citation....I dont know what it was for, but it happened, or it is a tall tale!! If I remember right I heard it first hand, but hell that was 20+ years ago.

Also, I heard he had a run in with a pretty powerful official over towards Franklin Parish, over a goose. Now this one is probably an unsubstantiated rumor, but if we are just telling hunting stories!

I hunt in little mo loop right next to the infamous "Joe Oliveros Tract"...never met him but I can confirm that he loved to give attempting to shoot over the limit tickets and would always be listening somewhere for people shooting early

I hunted the Eagles Nest. In the early 80's I was driving out with a limit. Joe jumps out of a ditch and starts this which duck did you shoot first...which last. He put a thermometer up the Mallard hen's arse to make sure I didn't shoot her first.

He tried everything he could to write me up but I was legal. He continued to frick with us for years. I did not like the dudes attitude but I'll say he wasn't scared.

Yep. I watched my host chew his arse out one day for riding across his property in an effort to bust some duck hunters. We were deer hunting when old Joe came riding across the field we were in on a 4 wheeler.

I'm pretty sure this is the guy that hassled some friends at the Woodlands off 15 one time. They shot a merganser in addition to the ducks and he had been watching them from a distance. Thinking he had an easy bust for taking over the limit he checked them and proceeded to get pretty mad when he realized the extra bird was a merganser and therefore wasn't illegal.

Met him several times, and I'm glad there wasn't more. He was a prick. I think he crossed the line of sanity a few times and had a hard time "recrossing" back.

Oliveros is a legend in NE LA. I've heard stories from him hiding curled up inside an abandoned tractor tire in the middle of a field waiting for hunter, to intertubing across sloughs to get to guys
