I took Sports Law at LSU, and if I remember right, an athlete can compete professionally in a sport and return to play another NCAA sport, as long as they are not still being paid to play the previous sport - would this apply to Chad Jones, and him being eligible to come back and play baseball at LSU? Or am I completely wrong?

He got an $825k signing bonus from the Giants.

If he was physically able to play baseball next season he'd still be playing for the Giants.

Yes, because tackling a 240lb rb and throwing a baseball are exactly the same,

I don't think he completed enough academic credits last year to be eligible for baseball this year, so the point is moot.

Wasn't Jeff Samardjizzia (sp? IDGAF) playing in like AA ball before his senior year at Notre Dame for football?

He most certainly has a year of eligibility left...actually 1.5 yrs...and can pay his own way if need be. Josh Booty did it to play football...as have others. Why do you think there's a 24-26 y/o QB every now and then on some teams? Didn't Mauck do this too?

yes booty and maulk both did it, as did ricky williams, just to name a few.

but chad would have to be enrolled in school now, and i doubt that can happen

Although possible, it's not likely Chad would be able to play next season anyway. But as long as he has eligibility, he can come back and play. And as stated, he has 1 1/2 years of eligibility left...or 2 baseball seasons.

If he maintained academic eligibility, he would theoretically have two seasons of baseball eligibility left. While he never redshirted in football, this year would count as one in baseball considering he didn't play...plus he didn't participate in enough games or past the midway point his true freshman year.

Only caveat is he would have to pay his own to school and could not accept an athletic scholarship.

Bottom line, he has used two years of his eligibility in baseball. No matter when, he still has two years of eligibility left. Not likely he'll be able to next season, but if he wants...and isn't in some minor league bullpen by then, he can still play baseball at LSU for 2 more seasons if he pays his own way.

Please be respectful and see if he can even walk again before posting these threads. NO ONE KNOWS YET!

You have 5 years to use up 4 years of eligibility. Chad enrolled in the 2007-2008 school year, and should be able to play through the 2012 college season. 2011 is probably out due to his car wreck injuries - I don't see him coming back in 2012.

Yeah, that's not how it works at all. It absolutely matters when. This year('10) would have been his true JR year in baseball. He'd use that as a redshirt year, so '11 would be his redshirt JR year and '12 would be his redshirt SR year. But I think it's all moot myself.

No, but he has a redshirt year available to him.

He could re-enroll, get academically eligible and be able to play in 2 years (likely the soonest he would be ready anyway).
