Prive' seating at a theater

Do any of the theaters where you live have Prive' seating? Have you ever tried it?
I know this is long, but I'll explain what this is for those like me who don't know.
My wife and I were in Huntsville, AL the weekend that Inception opened. We decided to send the kids and grandma to the Space & Rocket Center while we went to the movie. We chose a nearby Monaco Theater (which we had never heard of). When I said "2 for Inception", the clerk asked "regular or Prive'". I gave him the wtf look and asked what he meant. He said Prive' is special balcony seating for adults only. It is $11, whereas regular seating is $7.
I asked for reglar seats and he flips his monitor around and asks me to choose my seats. Again, I thought wtf. I have never had reserved seats for a movie. On the screen, I could tell that all of the good seats were taken (I'm a middle of the theater guy), and I really wanted a good experience for this movie.
I then asked him to show me the Prive' options. The middle of the front row was available, so I took it. I wouldn't pay $11 for a matinee for many movies, but it was Inception and I was curious about this Prive' anyway.
The first thing I noticed when I went upstairs was the cash bar where you could get alcohol and real food for the movie. There were some tables set up for socializing before/after the movie. It was a nice lobby without teenagers running around. Inside the theater, the seats were leather rockers with a good 3 feet between rows. There were couple seats where the armrest could be lifted to form a loveseat. It was pretty damn cool and viewing from the balcony was much better than I expected.
It was a cool experience. I definitely wouldn't pay extra for every movie, but it was cool for a nice date. It would be worth it on a Friday/Saturday night just to get away from the teens.
I really thought the reserved seating was a great idea, especially if you prebuy your tickets. Unfortunately, I saw the downside when a couple came in after the movie started and stumbled around looking for their seats. Someone was in their seats, so they hassled with getting them up, then the other couple had to find their seats. Good idea gone bad.
Has anyone else experienced Prive' seating or reserved seats at a movie? Am I the only simpleton that had not seen this before?

never heard of it, but is an interesting idea, i wouldn't mind it for some of the great movies like inception that come out

Never heard of that, but it sounds awesome. I actually don't go to too many movies in the theater any more. This would appeal to me for the few that I venture out for.

The new Canal place theaters are pretty much the same. No balcony seats, but you do have to reserve your seats and tickets online. The ticket order screen gives you a layout of the theater, and which seats are already taken. Gourmet food and wine, cocktails right to your seat. They also have the standard popcorn and stuff. If you are in New Orleans, it's probably the best movie experience out there. Now if we can get something similar to the Draft House in Austin, I would be a happy man, and see more movies in the theater. The Theaters at Canal Place Web Site

The Monaca is a good place to catch a film without the screeming teenagers you get at the mall or wherever.
I', told that there are two Monacos in the US (with more planned) Here is Huntsville and the original in California somewhere. Supposedly the Bridge Street Center was copied from a shopping area in Cali.
The Prive, is 21 and older only. They serve alchohol and you can actually get a meal, not popcorn. The bar area down stairs is popular. and you talked about tickets, they have kiosks in the lobby so you dont even have to talk to anyone, jsut slide your card, pick your seats off the screen adn it prints the tickets

No one under 18 is allowed.

I don't remember ever seeing one with the balcony like that, but I seem to remember a place in Huntsville or Gadsden that had a couple of private booth/suite areas at the back of the theater - maybe it was they same place and they have redone it or maybe I was just misinformed. Always thought having a private suite at the movie would be a great place for a little theater lovin'

IMO, movie prices should all be set via some sort of auction process. When you walk up to the box office, there should be a real time pricing based on the real time supply/demand of that exact showing.

I would hate that idea even though I almost always buy my tickets in advance.
As you mentioned, late comers would cause a lot of ruckus looking for their seats and kicking out seat thieves.
I do love the Alamo Draft House idea with the long table in front of you with a flag to hoist to have a waiter take your food and drink order.
I loved going to the Alamo when I was a refugee in Houston.

The New Canal Place theaters card now. No one under 18. However I haven't been yet to say definitively.

There was a Warran Theater in Oklahoma City that had this set up in 2 of their theaters with regular stadium seating in the others. The link has a video that explains the balcony experience.
LINK
Even outside of the balcony this theater was nicer than most theaters I went to and was my prefered place to watch a movie when I lived there. Nothing like it anywhere near Hattiesburg unfortunately.

Man that sounds wonderful. Hell I would pay $15/ticket to not have to sit next to any annoying kids/teens and have a bar option. The wife and I are lucky to go see 2 movies a year and this would make it even better.

It's possible the early shows don't card. Like I said, I haven't been personally so I can't say. I think the carding may be at the later shows where alcohol is sold.

yeah that would make sense. you should definitely check it out. one hell of an experience.

Wife and I have tried Prive seating at this same theater on a Friday night.
Enjoyed 98.8 of the experience, mostly because of what you've described.
Only downside WAS the bar. Several folks in the balcony with us were drunk enough that they had to pee a lot, which meant they stumbled in and out and over our feet. Also, drunk people talk too much and too loudly.
