Your Opinion: HR Derby Format

While watching the HR Derby, I was thinking, it would be a pretty entertaining to see a HR derby with some of today's HR bombers (Pujos, Ortiz, Fielder, Howard, Hamilton, Cabrera, etc) against the oldie- but- goody of not so long ago (Bonds, McGwire, Griffey, A-Rod, Sosa, maybe even Canseco??). Just a little different approach to the current format. New School vs. Old school per se., What do you guys think? Bad Idea/Good Idea?

I think it's an interesting idea but do you think those old school guys really stand a chance competing against guys who are younger, more in shape, not to mention practicing 90 percent of the year?

Sure. I would think McGwire, A-Rod, Bonds, Griffey could probably still hold themselves quite nicely. Not sure about Canseco or Sosa. I would picks guys not too far removed from the game.

I do think that these all star attractions ( Hr derby, dunk contest) have lost the luster they once had and need some revamping but i'm not sure exactly how.

I'd pay to see which of these guys had the best drug connection

I like the idea, if the old guys would be willing to participate and could do enough to not embarrass themselves.
What I'm not sure about though... is how do you consider Ortiz one of today's HR bombers while A-Rod is an 'oldie but goody'?

Only b/c he has participted recently. I put A-Rod in the latter group b/c of the old school "connections" most of those guys share. Besides, it's been some time since he's participated. You could also throw Thome in the old school mix. Don't want Griffey to feel "out of place".
However you want to slice it, I think I would be interesting to see.
