Son back from Manning Passing Academy
Posted by GusMcRae on 7/11/10 at 3:32 pm00
He had 2 sessions w/ JJ. He described JJ as a "quiet guy."
He also played a game with JJ, whereby you throw the ball back and forth with somebody... If they catch the ball in the general area of the chest, the thrower gets 2 points. If they catch it in front of their face, you get 1 point. If it is uncatchable, or if you have to move, or reach outside the confines of your trunk, 0 pts.
JJ beat my son 10 - 9.
In response to a previous question, I sent my kid to "Air it Out" at Hardon-Simmons University in Texas last year. It is my understanding that Hardon-Simmons sort of developed the spread offense, which Leach brought to Texas Tech.
Many of the Tech QB's have participated at Air it Out, either as campers, or counselors, as well as Colt McCoy.
My kid said the two camps were remarkably similar, but that there were a lot more kids in Thibodeaux. He also said that there was some impressive talent in there this weekend.

I sure hope your son is going to be an all-world QB later on.

So i hope they only threw it back and forth 5 times.
Hal Mumme and Mike Leach developed the Air Raid offense by taking a little from Bill Walsh, a little from Lavelle Edwards, and incorporating their own ideas when they coached together at Iowa Weslyan, Valdosta State and Kentucky. Not saying there wasn't some influence that originated at Hardin-Simmons, but neither Hal nor Leach talk much about it if so.
Glad to hear your son had a good experience!!

Re: where TT spread was developed
All I know is that HS orginated it; I don't know if Leach further developed elsewhere; And that there have been a lot of TT qb's involved with the camp.
Re: all the pricks w/ smart-arse comments
I understand, its the rant. In another thread, someone asked me to comment on if I thought the camp was worthwhile. And, I don't have any reason to make up a stupid story, just to entertain myself. I thought it was mildly amusing, and its a slow sports day.
