Will he see some qb work again?
Posted on 7/10/10 at 8:18 am to MississippiTiger
DP.
And, I highly doubt it unless he really wants in at qb again. I don't think he wants to play qb anymore. He knows that he's NFL caliber at other positions.

If j lee and jj get hurt I could see him pulling a David palmer.

We just need to find a way to get Shep the ball. He is much more valuable as a utility player like Harvin was for Florida. Just get him the damn ball in space and watch the fireworks. Of course that plan of action is just too obvious and workable for Crowton so I'm sure he will throw his little wrinkles and experimentations into the mix.

In a word no. No more than he's already working on the position. Miles stated at the Shreveport alumni dinner a couple weeks ago the same things he's said all spring. Shep will be on the field all the time. He's the #3 receiver, he will lineup as a running back in the backfield and as the qb in the wildcat. The thing is, defenses won't know where he's going to be on offense until they come out of the huddle. I think a lot of naysayers are gonna be surprised at how well we use Shep this year.

I sure hope so. It would be a damn shame to waste that talent. With 3 5-star players at the wide receiver/slot positions this year there really is no good reason for LSU not to score a lot of points this season. Of course the 2 big question marks are QB and offensive line. If JJ and Lee get their game rolling and the line can give time it could be fun to watch the offense this year.

I have said and continue to say that RS will play QB this year but, at what capacity I do not know. I do think if he does it is smart on Miles's part not to tell everyone what he or the team plan on doing. If Z. Lee does go and take the money I am about 80-90% sure he will be given a better chance at it than he was before.
I think it smart if we used RS and JJ or J. Lee like Arnsbarger did with Hodson and Guidrey back in the mid '80's. He would be great when we plan on running more than passing. I still think he could be used to throw short passes from on the move if need be. JMHO!

I think Shep's football copassities are many and varied.

Yeah it's usually a good policy not to tip the other team off ahead of time.

I hope your optimism is justified this year. RS' effect on the field has not yet met the expectations. Hope this is the year!

He will get plenty of chances to shine!

and as the qb in the wildcat.
we heard this shite last year but saw it maybe once last year. Lining shep at QB does not = the wildcat

does this mean "sharing in the passing duties"?

only if Jefferson and Lee both get hurt.

wildcat has evolved to refer more to the formation than the play...accept it and move on

Someone please give SFP this memo as well.

Besides, RS will see time in the Wild Tiger formation, maybe even lob a couple of passes this year. He will be on the field at least 75% of the time IMO.

I do not think not passing so much as his ability to run and being the emotional leader at that possition and doing the things in his capacity as a QB. He may not be as efficeintly as JJ or JL but, his ability in the running game would be out of this world with the speed of our skilled possition players. And if he could pass on the run he would be that more dangerous to the defense. JMHO!

I will not get over it. It is what I think will take place this year because, he is such an emotional leader and what I think is missing from this team. That's what Flynn meant to that team in '07 and what Mauck meant to that team in '03. Every team needs a leader and not one that just says let's go but shows it emotionally and demonstrates it on and off the field. You have to have an individual that will lead not only by emotional but also by example.
I believe Russell Shepherd showed it during his recruitment process in how he wanted to get as many of the top recruits to follow him to LSU. Some of them are there with him and so he needs to demonstrate what he said then now on and off the field and I think this is the year he does it.
No body on this team has the ability to lead as he does, in my opinion, so I say let him do it, it certainly can not hurt no more than him not doing it last year by him sitting the bench. JMHO!
I will not shut up and I will continue to give my opinions on this board until I am no longer allowed to.
