So I get these B movie screeners in the mail. They're always fairly lame but the one i got this week stars edward norton. it's called Leaves of Grass. he plays 2 twin brothers.
I guess my question is that has he really fallen off enough that he does B movies? i guess it really could've been a general question, not just him but he's been one of my favorite actors. What makes people do these when their other work is so accomplished?

I saw trailers for this and read some good reviews. I was looking forward to seeing it too.
I think actors may do small indie films sometimes because they enjoy working on them more and get to do a role they wouldn't for some huge studio.
Just because an actor does a film that isn't a big production doesn't mean they've 'fallen off.' That's a bad assumption.

His pay rate is probably the same whether he does a big budget movie or a small B-list movie. He could can do b-list movies and be on set for 3 weeks and make the same as he would if he did a big budget A-list movie and had to be on set for months. I don't know if that's the case with Norton but that's how Val Kilmer explained his motivation for doing b-list movies.

If you go into Blockbuster you will see it is quiet normal that big names appear in alot more B-class films then you would think.

Just look up any big actor on IMDB and see if you recognize every movie that person has been in, even in the past 5-10 years. I bet there are a few you have never heard of.

I don't know if this is a "B movie". I'd consider it an indie, which tons of stars do. Don't think it necessarily means that his career has fallen off. He was here to accept a lifetime achivement award and sat in for a showing of this movie at the Seattle International Film Fest.

I would disagree that this was a B movie. I think lots of actors have pet projects that they want to do between the money films.

I thought Norton was good in the movie, but I also felt they couldn't decide if they wanted to make a serious movie or a comedy.
It turned nastier than I expected.
Not a bad movie, but not something I will watch again.

Then there are actors like Daniel Day-Lewis who are extremely picky. He comes out every few years and turns in an Oscar worthy performance but he goes to a private island by himself after he accepts a role and spends months just getting into character.

i probably should've have worded that differently. i didn't mean it to "knock" them. i guess i meant i used to always assume it to mean this.
but i get a decent amount of these in the mail over time. some of the others have well known names too, but then others have crap like gary coleman and ron jeremy. i don't have the patience to look at them and figure out which are good and which are crap. i'm sure i miss out on some good movies.
some of the answers in the thread are what i was really looking for. i guess they do it since they like what they do. and some may still be paid well....

I haven't seen Nine. Isn't it a musical? I don't like musicals. I know the only reason he did The Ballad of Jack and Rose (which was terrible) is because his wife directed it.

Daniel Day Lewis performances in his previous films has persuaded me to tune into other genres that I normally would not watch, However Nine was absolute crap to me and I don't plan on watching anyhting else like it.

Edward Norton is one of the best actors of his generation. I would really like to see him branch out and play some different roles. He's been pretty eclectic so far but I think he could really push himself.

I thought this was a good movie.
I'd hardly consider it a B movie. It's basically the same thing that Johnny Dep did before he jumped on the Pirates ATM machine, which is to take indie flick roles because they appeal to you as an actor, and allow you to show some range.
