NOLA.com Article

In keeping with recent tradition, the Saints' Super Bowl ring is big and blinding. But compared to some of the more garish rings created by other championship teams, the Saints have taken a more tempered approach. There are diamonds aplenty, but they're wrapped around and within a fleur-de-lis.

"A lot of rings that we looked at featured the Lombardi Trophy," Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis said. "But our team has such a deep connection to the city, and the fleur-de-lis is not just an emblem of the Saints. It represents the region."

The fleur de lis, outlined in black, features a .06-carat round diamond, representing the team's first Super Bowl win.

"We didn't want it to be gaudy," Saints owner Tom Benson said. "We wanted it to be something attractive, something that people would be proud to wear for years."

Benson shelling out more than the 150 allocated rings - didn't think he had it in him.

Why would you think this? He's shown a willingness to spend money in the past and he seemed genuinely happy for his coaches and players. Class move on his part.

Article says Tiffany picks up the tab for the costs of the ring beyond $5,000... but it doesn't say that Tiffany pays entirely for the rings past #150.

It seems Tiffany did pick up all of the costs. The Saints basically opened up the rings for bidding.

Tiffany now has the right the sell the replicas and other stuff. They are probably banking they will make enough money off of this market to more than cover the cost of real rings, and probably make a nice profit.

Worst case they are associated with the Saints SuperBowl team. Good for them - it's a beautiful ring.
