How much should health insurance cost for two people?

Just basic, no dental. What should it be per month?

The reason I ask is because at my work we just had the open enrollment meeting and I found out that it would cost me $400 per month to cover my wife and myself. Does that seem a bit high?

What's your deductible?

Do you have a co-pay?

How old are you? Any health problems?
My insurance is like $100 a month.

We have a $300 deductible per person and for employee and spouse it costs $120/month.

Would depend on type coverage (deductible, max out of pocket, percentage payable after deductible meet)

Unfortunately, between 300 - 400 would be average if the company pays for the employee 100%

Deductible is $1000, $30 copay.

Thing is if I were getting myself covered the company would pay for everything and my monthly cost would be $0. Looks like I should look into maybe getting outside coverage for the wife.

That's the way mine works.

My insurance is free ($350 deductible), but with wife or kid it jumps to almost $200 (and $750 deductible.)

Get her independent insurance unless she has a pre-existing.

tell your wife to get a job with some fricking benefits.........My ins is $90. My wife has our son's and will have our daughter's when she is born and hers is around 100 bi weekly.

eta if I had the family, it'd be around $700 and if she had the entire family, it'd be around $600

yeah. women are definitely expensive and the company isn't paying for her share.

depending on her health and age, you can probably cover her much cheaper. call a broker who can price it for you. i just had to do this for myself and my son.

if you can get it at work do so beause they are probably a grandfathered plan and before long the obamites will price everything out of the market like by 2014 as part of their economic conspiracy. Are they self funded? Is it a pre-tax plan? What is the deductible, provider network, max out of pocket and is that major med and dental or just a major med policy?

1. not enough info.

2. But, $400 sounds VERY high for a company plan.

your employer is not paying in much.

I presume you are NOT in a union.

Guys are sooooo independent until they realize that cooperative negotations are ALWAYS superior to one man griping.

3. I pay $175 for BC/BS. a dependent would be $125 more.

That maps to the $300 someone else posted.

Dont do it unless you cannot have kids or had all you want. If your company has over 15 employees then that health insurance will include maternity automatically. You wont get that going on your own and if you do get a plan with it then it will be MUCH higher.

Pre-tax, blue cross blue shield of Tennessee, no kids (and not planning on it either), we are young (27, and 23) and we are healthy.
