Ocean Reef Resorts Refund Policy for Spill, Beware!

I guess is somewhat disaster related given the number of other postings concerning beach rentals. We have booked houses in Destin through Ocean Reef several times, and recently received this notice about refunds. I had booked before the spill, and while I am sure they want to hold on to the revenue, this was suprising considering the number of other rental management outfits allowing 24 hour cancelation.

To our Valued Customers,
We are happy to report that at the time of this writing, our beaches are still clean, open and oil-free (see for yourself here). We are open for business and the accommodations we provide are unaffected by the oil. Ocean Reef Resorts is unable to issue a refund in the case that oil does affect our guests' visit to the area and unfortunately CSA Travel Insurance does not cover environmental disasters. We'd like to inform our guests of their options if oil does wash ashore during or before their upcoming stay.
If oil washes ashore during or before your stay we recommend you contact the British Petroleum claims office. Be ready to provide documentation of your accommodation and beach closure.
Again, we'd like to stress that we are open and recommend our clients continue with their plans to vacation with us.
Thank you,
Ocean Reef Resorts"

That is very bush league. Even Sandestin and Seaside, etc, have relaxed their cancellation policy for this situation.

Wow. I think i would never be staying with those assholes again and would do everything I could to cancel this stay. That pisses me off and I am not involved.

make sure you send a certified letter requesting refund. If they deny, it will come in handy when they try to charge you for all the oil you track through their property.

Boom goes the dynamite! I bet they would pull something like that too.
It seems most rental places have been very understanding. This case seems absurd, but I guess the complex is just as worried as everyone else. It doesn't make it right, though, in my opinion. They should put the burden on BP, not you an individual consumer having to get it from BP. On the other hand, depending on when your trip is, this could save cancellations that are unnecessary.... for instance, all the people that have canceled for for dates up to this point that would not have been affected. Either way, I still think you as the consumer should not be punished for this disaster.
I didn't see anywhere in the original post what their normal cancellation policy is though?

Same. This should be publicized as much as possible to ensure they don't get future business. That sux

It would be dam funny if house keeping shows up on the last day and the room is covered in a brownish film, from the remote to the drapes...
