Has anyone from BP commented on why there were 2 strings of cut pipe in the riser when they removed the riser from the BOP last week? I remember watching the live feed and the ROV clearly showed two sheared strings of pipe in the riser. It doesn't make sense why there were two strings, only one should have been there. Not sure if BP commented on this. Thanks

If there were two strings of tubing one was likely the 9 5/8 inch casing.

Yes. There's a possibility the casing was blown up into the stack by the gas which would explain why the BOP couldn't shear.

That is joints of drill pipe - not casing. My assumption is after the explosion the work string was sheared into multiple segments which fell back towards the BOP.

any chance it was pulled up by the rig going down?

Not certain how two joints would be there if the rig pulled it up? Then again, I can't totally discredit that theory either. Your guess is as good as mine.
