The SEC and ACC have been quiet during this whole thing.

Anyone else think there are already some handshake deals in place btw the SEC and certain ACC schools if Pac-10 or Big-10 go 16 team power conference?

the SEC is just going to pick and choose which ACC schools it wants

I'd love to add Ga Tech back and then maybe UNC, Duke, Miami

the SEC doesn't really have any teams who would help them out

our TV deal is set

we have elite teams and the most fertile recruiting ground

we have 12 teams for the only truly successful title game (the big12 is ok, but not great. ACC's blows)

no need to expand

to keep up with the other superconferences that may form?

To increase basketball revenue? UNC and Duke along with Kentucky would make the SEC a powerhouse

not to mention increased academic prestige

you have to wonder how UGA and UF feel about expansion considering the teams the SEC would target will probably be Florida State, Miami, or GT. The Pac-10/Big-10 aren't really adding schools that would hamper recruiting for their current powers.

unc or duke would make more sense than the football powers.

who cares?

the only reason other conferences are expanding is to increase market share for cable networks and to get at title game

our tv deals are set

out title game is set and well established

also, the more teams we add = less money for each school

true, but the SEC isn't really the conference that waits for things to need to happen.

If only the Pac-10 goes 16 teams, then maybe the SEC waits it out for awhile, but if Big-10 goes that route also I can't see the SEC sitting back and waiting.

The SEC has always been a proactive not a reactive conference.

This and SlowFloPro is right. The SEC is pretty much perfect as it is. Why tinker with a product that's been working so well?

well we fricked up the college landscape with our ESPN deal, and it left every conference not named the big10 scrambling

the big10 was proactive with its cable deal, which fricked up every other conference

the SEC is just going another route

i could see the SEC going from 12 to 14 instead of 16

that wouldnt be as dramatic

the thinking from people (including the Mike Slive) who want to expand the SEC is that by adding big names or schools that add major media interest - that they would go back and renegotiate the present television contracts.

The big piece that the SEC is currently falling behind on seems to be the private television network. Whereas teh Big 10 has busily been developing the Big 10 network over the last couple years - the SEC has seemed content to have ESPN, CBS, and a high school yearbook staff doing the games

a. this won't happen and we JUST signed them

b. if we want to get out of our contracts now, we risk the pac16 swooping in and seizing those contracts, which would frick the SEC

and as of now, there is only 1 cable channel

otherwise, there is only a possible, rumored cable channel for a possible, rumored conference 2 years down the road

we just signed a 15 year, TWO BILLION DOLLAR deal with ESPN

having your games in primetime on the espn/cbs networks kicks the living shite out of early morning games on some obscure network.
