The Tommyknockers.

I just watched that thing on SyFy. God, that was terrible.

Langoliers

/thread

That thing was just pure pain.

3rd graders could produce better CGI on their computer.

And the acting was just terrible.

Damn.

I forgot about the Langoliers.

There really have been some bad SK adaptions.

I hated how they changed up The TommyKnockers, that was my 1st SK book. The ending in the adaptation sucked, how are you gonna keep Bobbi alive

I've heard the Mangler is pretty bad, but I'd still like to watch it for myself. I think From a Buick 8 might eventually be considered bad, that book was so over the top, there's no way that it won't look cheezy on the silver screen..

Winner. Even Balki Bartokomous couldn't fix that horrible miniseries.

He was the main problem. It was like he had never acted before. He was horrible.

It was pretty terrible for me. I loved It as a novel. One of the more disturbing straight up horror novels I have ever read. So the movie disappointed. You just cannot do the story justice with acting and production when you are talking about a 1000+ page novel.

Exact same can be said for The Stand.

uhhhh are you talking about the Langoliers? The Langoliers isn't close to 1000 pages. It's a novella.

Don't worry, it's being produced/directed by JJ Abrams so if you're a LOST fanboy you'll be ok.

JJ and Bad Robot backed out of Dark Tower. I think he realized how freaking impossible it will be to pull that crazy arse series off.

Ron Howard and his production company have decided to take a stab at it with a movie that then leads into a tv series.

This just has fail all over it. Even if JJ and Bad Robot didn't back out. I just think any way you try to put the dark tower series on film is gonna suck.

The only way to make it work is a HBO or cable series. But It will also cost a pretty penny so I am not sure a TV series will make enough to cover the expenses.

I'm not down on Opie like most are on this board. I think he is competent but the source material is just so strange I am not sure it would have enough viewers to cover the expense.

I think King has another TV series coming out. If that fails, maybe the money men will be too nervous to try Dark Tower.

Yeah Balki wasn't believable playing an over the top central European goat herder much less a real character. Might be one of the worst acting jobs ever.

Premium channels has the best chance for a show based on that series to survive. I think initial interest from his fans would give it a push, depending on how the pilot is handled.

I don't know how other posters feel, but if a series or show can't grab me in the first 4 episodes (sometimes 3 depending on how bad the first few were) I'm not going to tune it.

Then there are shows like Harpers Island and that other clusterfrick that only made it past 1 episode with me.

The way King's books are coverted for film has always been hit or miss, sort of 50/50. For every Tommyknockers and Langliers, there's a Mystery and Green Mile (I really liked Room 1408 also).

Speaking of his last series. Who watched Kingdom Hospital, and how good was it?

I don't remember liking it and it was not on for very long.

I am not sure I really gave it a fair chance though.

I lasted 1 season, 13 episodes I think. I think the timing conflicted with another show or two, so I didn't get a chance to watch it.

I know it was based off the series The Kingdom (Riget) by Lars von Trier, about a hospital in Denmark (I think it's a 3 series "movie"). I watched the first one in that series, but had trouble finding the others. Kind of a fricked up show, but very interesting.

Definitely the Langoliers. Worst. Ever.

The Dark Tower should be able to sustain 7 complete feature films.

I actually kinda liked The Langoliers. Not the execution of the movie itself, I guess...but the point of it. I thought the whole "I guess that's what happens to yesterday" premise was pretty cool, even if it looked cheesy and the acting was laughable.
