Got a verbal from MMS today at the office. The MMS is changing the memo released on Sunday. They are now going to be shutting down all deepwater activity including workovers and completions at the behest of the federal government. According to the MMS guy we were talking to the Feds didn't feel as though the moratorium went far enough. What was already a bad situation for our industry may have just gotten a hell of a lot worse. As soon as we get the official memo I'll post the details. I'm hoping that what he told us was very wrong but it's not looking like it.

Who cares about jobs anyway? Everything is soon going to be free for everyone.
Thanks federal gov.

I was just about to post on this. According to word we're getting, it's all permits, including APD (permit to drill) and APM (permit to modify) which include cased hole/work over. It is every permit. Not just deepwater. Shelf also.

Anyone else have any info on this?

I wish news outlets would pick up on the people who are about to be laid off because of this disaster. I understand the plight of fisherman/people who depend on the water, but come on people who work in the O&G industry need to put food on the table as well.

Hearing the same. Also rumored to extend onto the shelf as well. Obama will have singlehandedly ruined an entire industry and state with the stroke of a pen.

That doesn't make sense. They just approved a permit for Brandon Offhore to start drilling yesterday. Granted I believe its only a couple hundred ft but it contradicts what you just said.

I'm not sure if this is the same but it was mentioned this AM that a small operator had been granted a permit to drill. Even though it was considered shelf they were going to be drilling into about 750' of water. The media and gov freaked out that MMS granted the permit and they were told to shut it down.

That's fricking ridiculous. Issue the permit then tell them they can't drill. What a moron.

Shelf also.

We were still under the impression that it was only DW and not Shelf.
Hopefully they'll send out an official clarification this afternoon.

I'd expect for that permit to be pulled, if they're not already in the process of doing it. If it wasn't told to me by an engineer who just had several permits pulled from him, I wouldn't have posted it.

According to the phone call he had with MMS this morning, ALL permits are being pulled.

I really hope that's incorrect, and someone was mistaken, but when all of the supterintendents go into a closed door meeting, it doesn't look good.

I can tell you that ALL permits will not be approved until further notice. Any permits that were approved this week will be pulled.

I hope this is just a rumor, if true this will be the death of the south LA economy.

What a bunch of idiots that we have working in our federal goverment. Why in hell would you shut down the shelf work that has nothing to do at all with the BP incident.

Or cased hole work. Asked my boss if I needed to start handing out resumes. Not...yet.

All depends on how long this goes for.

I have to keep telling myself this piece of crap will only be in power for another 2 years, all of this BS going on just makes me want to pack up my bags and leave. Absolutely disgusting how this piece of crap can just come in and wipe out another industry while our state is struggling with the loss of a couple of others. Shame on the idiots who voted for him.

BTW where in the hell is Rick Perry in calling barry out? Texas stands to lose alot as well.
