Question for fans who remember the 1997 regional against USA

does anyone remember an incident of the South Alabama right fielder having batteries thrown at him during the game. A guy who played for them is claiming that happened on another board and that Andu Sutley, the right fielder, came back in the dugout with a bleeding head and handful of AA batteries. I was at those games, and one would think if something like that happened play would have been stopped and it would have been publicized. i don't remember this at all and want to call BS

I'll call double that bullshite call. I've had season tickets since '96 and that would never be tolerated where we sit.
But it makes for good stories about how aweful the LSU fans treat people.
For reference, opposing teams parents have often been complimentary of LSU fans, as they can sit in any available seat and not get ushered out of seats. Arkansas parents mentioned this to us at the game there year.
I am sure there are alot players heckled, but I am pretty positive that throwing batteries would not be tolerated.

BS. The only right field seats in the old Box were down the line, so:
a.) It would take a pretty good throw and great aim to hit the right fielder in the head and, more importantly...
b.) they would have had to stand up or at least make a hard throw from one of the first rows and the LSU fans would have noticed. The LSU fans, particularly the ones back then, would not have put up with that kind of crap.

It would take a helluva arm to throw an AA battery from the bleachers to the rightfielder and if he happened to run close to the bleachers during an inning he wouldn't have been able to collect a "handful (sic) of batteries".And you can be sure that if this happened the USA coach would have made an issue of it and rightfully so.Plus I don't think Tiger fans would have watched this and not said or done something.I call complete BS on this.

He said outfielder not right field, that's my bad. Anyhow, yeah I told him there's no way the coach and player wouldn't have thrown a shitfit about it if that had actually happened. I said I know LSU fans have thrown objects onto the field but never has it gone unnoticed and unaddressed. I was at all those games too and don't remember that, at all

I was at that game and don't recall anything of the sort. That said, I can't think of any reason why a player from the time would falsely claim it, and if a guy sitting next to me in the stands suddenly stood up and threw a battery I honestly might not have realized it.
Whatever happened, it's fun to trade barbs with the fielders and sometimes they get into it too, that's all good and part of the experience. But fans who cross the line from heckling to physical assault have no business being there.

just looked at old box scores. andy sutley played in one inning at left field for south alabama in 1997 against lsu in any of the three games, the bottom of the 9th in game one.

i don't doubt an lsu would throw something on the field, i just call bs because of the nonchalant response the guy described. if a player had a battery thrown at him causing bleeding, there would have been a shitfit thrown by both the USA coach and player

AA batteries wouldn't draw blood unless They were thrown from atop the Empire State Building.

My buddy played 1st for UH and said he was thrown some inappropriate words during a game. He said he loved playing LSU.
He said it was the funnest stadiun he ever played at.

Exactly, if a player would get hit with a battery or anything for that matter it would be a big deal and the a-hole who threw it would be kick out and might get his arse kick!

I remember it rained the whole weekend and I believe we had to come out of the loser's bracket and beat them twice. There were a bunch of rain delays. I do not recall anything about this "battery" incident.

I remember them feeling all good until Brandon Larson hit that bomb in game on Sunday, i think we beat them by 10+ in each game on Sunday.
That USA team was solid should have never been sent to Baton Rouge.

we had to play a game Saturday night that was finished sunday morning and then we had to beta USA twice on Sunday after that to advance to Omaha. pretty sure that's what happened iirc. i know we played 3 games in 24 hours that year
