NBA Referee Throws Ball At Magic Fan

I searched for Derosa and came up empty.
I am not a big NBA fan (a fair weather Hornets fan!), but this is pretty ridiculous behavior from an NBA ref. The fan probably said something, but it was a punk move by the ref to call security when he threw the ball.

that ref was full of himself...was he the same one that t'd up Carter after that BS foul call?

I've been to Joe DeRosa's camp before. He seemed like an alright guy, but you could see some arrogance with him and some of his other evaluators during the camp. Most of these NBA officials are already high profile guys who make money in more than just basketball and they're very proud of their jobs and sometimes too proud.

Refs need to ignore that type of stuff but when I read throws ball at fan I thought he hummed it at him or something.
Ref just kind of tossed it at him. The link to site saying the fan caught right before it would have hit him in the face is kind of blowing it up.

The ref threw a soft chest pass from a few feet away. The fan caught the ball and tossed it back. The fan was way out of line by leaving his seat to go to the scorer's table to harass the official.

this is true, but a player would be crucified for doing the same thing.

Should be the same penalty as if a player or coach did the same thing. Joe was wayyyy out of line. Fans are fans, he should be used to it.

True, but he can't interact with a fan. No matter what the guy said, ignore him. If the fan is out of line, call security and have him removed.
