fresh horseradish

Anyone grind there own? Did the other night and I won't be buying the prepackaged crap much more.

Fresh is wonderful. I think you can treat it similar to ginger root, in that if you buy a root, throw it in the freezer. Take it out and grate, as needed. It will last a long time.
I find it in any old grocery store, most of the time. Just make sure it's firm and not rubbery, when you buy it.

I've never understood why horseradish at most restaurants is really hot and cleans out the old beak, but store bought horseradish is very mild.
Is that because restaurants use fresh radish and bottled is not so it loses potency?
