Lee Brecheen’s Road Trip: Thibodaux High School
by Lee Brecheen

April 23, 2010 - It was great seeing head coach Dennis Lorio, the head coach, again. Dennis has done a great job turning the program around back to its old winning ways the last two years.

I predict it will be that way for a third season. I had a chance to talk to Gregory Robinson at 6-6, 300 pounds, who has in order as of today LSU, Auburn, USC, Alabama, and Arkansas as his leaders. I asked him to tell me his favorite college recruiter and it’s Auburn’s Trooper Taylor. That's not his favorite college but who he likes most out of who's recruiting him. Frank Wilson is recruiting him for LSU, for USC it’s Ed Orgeron, and Alabama it’s Burton Burns who are all Louisiana natives.

Senior RB Joshua Johnson (5-8, 180) runs a 4.6 forty is close to getting a Tulsa offer.
SS Kevin Cox (5-11, 190) runs a 4.6 forty will also sign probably after the season with a college. There's two or three more that could sign.

Yeah, I could see why he says that. Personally, I wouldn't want Trooper to be my main recruiter. Nothing against the guy, just not my style of football coach. But he seems to relate well to young guys, which is important. The good news is:

Frank Wilson is recruiting him for LSU

Personality wise, it seems like Frank Wilson and Trooper Taylor are similar, at least when it comes to how they recruit. Both are really energetic and emotional.

That's not really my style either, but a lot of guys like that.

lot of Auburn fans think they are going to seal the deal with him at Big Cat weekend.I can't see it happening but they seem really confident.i can't tell if it's wishful thinking or if there's something to it.Kid seems like a virtual lock for LSU.

I think you're right: Mr. Robinson does seem like a lock for the Fightin' Tigers. This, however, is where losing a guy like Trovon Reed [last year] has serious repercussions. Even though we wanted him, not having TR isn't going to make or break us; but Auburn's "steal" of a top-ranked Louisiana player gave those bastards an opening -- a few inroads into an in-state LSU stronghold. Whatcha wanna bet that Trovon has been burning up Greg's phone line, email, etc? Misery loves company, as they say....

I'm actually in New Orleans, but then again I don't know much about the recruiting game -- "lsufanva" seems to be the man with the scoop.

I am sure Lorio is working on Robinson to get him steered to Baton Rouge. Reed seemed to have some personal issues that made getting change of venue to get a fresh start an issue, have not heard anything of the sort about Robinson.

Me too.I 've told the Auburn guys that I talk to that Robinson says he loves LSU every time he gets the chance but they swear that Reed is getting to him.I also tell them that Robinson doesn't have the extenuating(sp)circumstances that Reed did.By all my accounts Robinson still has his family core around to help with his decision.I can understand why Taylor could be his favorite recruiter because as has been said many times Taylor knows how to relate to kids and is a grat recruiter.I still see no chance that Robinson isn't at LSU.I'll tell you though that the coaches better be all over him unlike with Reed last year or I will be severely pissed as a LSU fan. There would be no excuse.

I would be pretty suprised if Robinson ends up anywhere but LSU. Reed will help AU and we really need OTs in a bad way (especially with shon coleman struggling with cancer) but this is still Thibodaux we are talking about and Lorio is still the coach. Unless LSU really struggles this year and Miles job security becomes really uncertain I just don't see AU pulling this kid. Of course, I can't speak for all AU fans, but I have not spoken with anyone that feels really confident we will pull Robinson. The most optomistic AU fans I have spoken to seem to think we have a decent chance but thats about it.

I talk to some AU guys that are in my line of thinking with a little hope of pulling him as expected but a few are adamant that he will be at Auburn next year.No harm in trying i guess.

You never know unless you give it a shot. I remember last year one of my LSU buddies told me "Trovon Reed will never go to AU". Totally different situation I know, but the point remains that you dont win many recruiting battles if your scared to compete.

I don't know what Wilson is like, but I just hate seeing Trooper run around the sideline with his hat turned backwards jumping up and down acting a fool. He looks more like a grad assistant and not a football coach.

Haven't seen it but LSU is definitely in the 5.
Not to keep beating the same drum but Auburn fans are really getting high on the thought that Robinson can be pulled.Has anyone read or heard anything regarding this or is it the usual Auburn hoping because of Reed?I can't get any hard facts as to why they feel so good about him except for his previous visit there and him planning to go to Big Cat weekend.
