work real hard on the main dish, get frozen french/garlic/cheese bread and a bag of cesar salad, then add cheese and extra crutons

since the pasta is alfredo i wouldn't want my side to have more cheese sauce.

my favorite way to make broccoli is to bake it with olive oil brushed on and sprinkled with crushed red pepper and garlic.. it's also really good if you add red bell peppers too (cook for 20 min at 375)

I was thinking the same thing. Sounded like overkill.

By the way, your broccoli dish sounds great. I'll have to try it.

Tomato Awesomeness:

Halved cherry tomatoes
Gorgonzola
Minced shallots
Good balsamic vinegar
Salt, pepper
Basil chiffonade (more than you think you need)

The acidity of the tomatoes and vinegar should help cut through the alfredo so that you can actually taste it.

One of my go to salads. Simple, yet explosive in flavor. A little drizzle of some good extra-virgin olive would finish it for me.

Simplicity is where it's at.

ETA: Anecdotal evidence of simplicity being the best. Got handed about a $750 chunk of tuna belly one time and was told to "do something with it"

Everyone wanted to sear it. I broke out the ceramic and sliced it stupidly thin, bruinoised some orange, red, and yellow peppers, and made a vinaigrette out of blood orange juice, rice wine vinegar, and sesame oil. Two critics ended up eating it and I was semi-famous for a few weeks.

That sounds like a capriese salad except you use gorgonzola instead of Mozzerella.

Except with a completely different type of tomato and the addition of shallots....so, not at all?

I said sounds like...not is the same.

Sorry...i didn't realize you felt so passionately about salads that featured tomatoes. I supplicate myself before the mercy of the court.
