I was emailed these last night. The brother of a friend of mine was part of the early search & rescue and snapped these shots and some video.

Continue to keep these workers and their families in your thoughts and prayers.

Pretty amazing pics. Equally amazing is how calm the water is.

Thanks for the pictures. I still can't believe that the heat hasn't caused the deck to give and the rig implode on itself. Looks like the derrick has collapsed. I will share these with our shipyard today

I don't know what condition it's in at this point. These pics were taken early yesterday morning. Unless they got the fire under control, it may have imploded. I haven't seen an updated story yet this morning.

That water is unbelievably calm. Pretty awe-inspiring pictures, even though it's a high cost to pay for them.

Quick story -- we were tuna fishing at at a rig called Horn Mountain which is approx 95nm miles from Orange Beach - Around 10pm I notice the rig (Deep Water Horion in the distance didn't look right and a quick look through my binoculars showed it was on fire. It exploded (took a while for the sound to travel 18nm) and erupted in more flames. We were on the radio with the Coast Guard ASAP, a worker on the rig was hailing mayday, that they were abondoning, workers in the water etc. We headed (approx 18nm) towards them for assistance as fast as we could 30Kts at night . IT was unbelievable. We were one of the first boats there and Most everyone was already on a Crew Boat the Damon Bankston when we arrived. We gave them our medical bag and retrieved a medical bag from another boat and took it to the D.Bankston. We spoke with a few people who were on the rig, they were in a daze, gave a some water and smokes to one guy. We then proceeded to circle the rig for the next several hours looking for the missing crew members. It is kinda a blur . Around 230am we moved out of the immediate area as there were a lot of larger vessels, coast guard choppers, etc that we did not want to get in the way. Nothing we could do further at that point. Not much we could do any way but really hope the supplies we gave helped.

Here are a few pictures I snapped.

That is an unreal experience. It's amazing more people didn't get injured or killed.

Thanks for the story and the pics. Ya'll were way the hell out there in that center console. Would have been closer to Venice than Orange Beach. I imagine that thing was giving off an eerie roar at night.

Hell of a story. This may go down as the worst rig fire in American History.

The pics are incredible.

I shrunk them down to "message board size." You can see the full-size versions here:

(Click the link, then click the pic for full-size)
ONE
TWO
THREE
FOUR

The pics are gigantic, but you start to get some idea of how surreal that scene must have been.
