wife and I are moving to Boton and are not taking a car...

We are selling her 2006 MINI before we leave (in 2 weeks). KBB value is roughly $13,000. Dealership is offering $10,000. For the dealership, we just show up with the title and they give us a check. they do the rest. I want to drive it to the dealer ASAP. Car has been on the street with a sign for 2 weeks but we have only gotten a few half-assed phone calls. What would the people on td.com do?

do you owe more than 10,000 for it? If not sell it.

I would see what a dealer will give u first and then work from there. Once they give you a price, mark it up about 1500 and see if you get any bites. If not trade it in. I sold my car on craigslist and got 2k more than what the dealer would give me

Go to the nearest Carmax and get an appraisal (written offer good for seven days). Try other dealers, craigslist, newspaper, etc and try to get a better offer.

In my experience used car lots offer a little more than the dealerships. I would call around and drive it over to a few used car lots.

cars are not illegal in boston, but they are a giant headache.

we are living on Beacon Hill and working at MGH across the street so don't need one.

The MINI Copper is a 2006 with 34,000 miles on it and we are also selling a 2007 Mazda cx-7 with 29000 miles on it.

How much are you asking for the Mazda? Anything wrong with it? Be honest. I have friends in the Russian mafia who can track you down.

we are asking $18500 for the Mazda. The car is in excellent condition and is loaded. Sunroof, leather, bose stereo, 5 disc in-dash cd changer, heated seats, power everything....we bought the car in August and the only reason we are selling it is because I accepted a position in Boston at Hah-vahd (aka Harvard) and its too good to pass up. We are living in Beacon Hill and will be walking to work so we don't want the headache of dealing with a car. If you want pictures of the car, post your e-mail address for a sec and I'll e-mail them to you.

I almost forgot, when we bought the car in August, we also purchased the extended warranty which is transferrable. The car is still under the original manufacturer's warranty until May, but is under the extended warranty until May, 2014 or 100,000 miles. If I recall correctly, the extended warranty is $0 deductable.

Not relevant if you have the cash to cover the difference. Either the car is worth it or it isn't (hint: probably the latter)

A big reason for the difference between dealer price and street price is that the dealer has to stand behind the product and clean it up and be sure it really is saleable. The dealer has to take the risk that your car doesn't have something wrong with it that maybe you don't know about either, for example.

if you own the car outright, now is the best time to sell it to a dealer. The main reason is you'll get most money in the quickest amount of time. There is actually a shortage of inventory across the US in auto industry, so supply<demand

Check it on Edmunds.com, they give wholesale, trade-in, and retail pricing, plus what they call TMV, True Market Value based on sales in your area.

Mini's hold value very well, but the dealer has to make a profit, too. I would throw it up on Autotrader.com and Craig's list today and see if you get any action over the next week. If not you could always take it to the dealer.

There is NO WAY that you will get that for the CX-7. I have the same vehicle, but a two thousand eight and only paid outright $16995 BRAND NEW. I am assuming that yours is the Touring version, but even so, you will not get that. Don't get me wrong, I hope you get every cent of what you are asking, but I don't think the vehicle will fetch that asking price.

Once you sell it to a dealership your done with it. If you sell it to a person and something goes wrong with it in a day or so they will come back to you to fix or money back where a dealership will fix it themselfs.
