I have a car loan, credit cards, and installment loan all of which add up to 22k. I have the money to pay off the credit cards and the installment loan right now. My question is to get my score higher, should I pay them completely off at once or should I pay monthly and pay a little more every month than obligated to.

If you have a 60 month loan on a car and you just pay the note, then in month 59 you pay the loan off, it will shoot your credit score up some. Thats about all I know.

Sign up at creditkarma.com. They have a scenario creator that will answer any questio you have.

For the record, you would have to be insane not to pay it off right now.

Thanks Flask for the site.

The way I was thinking is that if I pay it off now that it would not raise it as much as if I went through the monthly payments. I want to just pay it off, but I really wanna get out of 600 score.

Pay them off all at once. The age on a credit card account does help your score but so long as the account remains open you're still good on that standpoint.

The only way I would not pay that off ASAP if you have the money is if the rate is very very low, like around 3-4% or so.

Thanks guys appreciate all the responses. My ex-girlfriend messed up my credit and I'm trying to get it back in order.

We had a kid together and I helped her out with a car and some other stuff and needless to say she f'ed me. Lesson learned and hope that someone else does not do the same.
