I'll admit I'm not up on basketball recruiting, but I wondered if anybody knows the story with this kid. And why would he sign with Stephen F Austin? Averages 24 and 14, 6-6 220. Where ya't Trent?

signing with a southland school means you can play

He is a "tweener".... He doesn't have the size to play a 4 or 5 in the SEC and he doesn't have the skill set of a 3 in terms of handling the ball and shooting.
With that said, he's a beast and has a high motor. Should be a good player for SFA.

Good thing the prior staff did not believe the same thing about the last Thomas who was a Baton Rouge basketball prospect.

T. Thomas was not a tweener.

I believe he was about 6'4 or 6'5 whensigned and grew about 4 inches between signing through his redshirt season and his introduction into the lineup. His high school stats are remakably similar to J J Thomas.

He was a tweener, but he was 6'6-6'7 when lsu signed him. He gained a lot of weight once he got to college though.

So by a chance of luck he became 6'8 after he signed.....
That doesn't really convince he of anything.

But he was a guard, not as a PF.

I thought he was taller than that out of high school. Both scouting services had him at 6'8 for his recruit profile. Either way, Tyrus was the exception rather than the rule.

That may be correct. In any event he did grow after entering LSU. There is always a spot for a talented player on a college team even if he is a tweener.

J-Jay is 6'4" 215. I am close with the coaches at SFA and they did a great job recruiting him. He was happy with them, the campus, the family atmosphere, the idea of being an impact kid right away and all that factored in. At the time he signed J-Jay signed at the right level he should be at. This year, he just happened to really turn it on and has really became a top player in Louisiana. What hurts him is he is a 6'4" forward. He is a bit better than the Southland but not much more better. He is good though and has really became a well known name statewide. He is my pick for Metro MVP, especially if Scotlandville wins state. If not he may still get it but has to dominate the semi's.

His chances for All-Metro MVP improved when Brian Williams missed time with an injury but Williams is still the better player

I've seen this kid play a few times the past 2 seasons and he is really good.....but his height is the reason he wasn't a bigger prospect.
Great school choice for him........

This is what I basically said. Now until this year though, he really made his name and impact. He is going to a great program. Will do well and be an impact right away.
