I was just looking back over the list of noms and winners from the last 10 years, and I only agree with 5 of the 10. This is just based on the list of nominees. Here is what I would have went with. Your thoughts?

1999- Spacey (American Beauty)- agree
2000- Crowe (Gladiator) - agree
2001- Crowe (A Beautiful Mind) - over Denzel
2002- DDL (Gangs of NY)-over Adrian Brodie
2003- Bill Murray (Lost in Translation)- over penn
2004- Leo (The Aviator)- over foxx
2005- Hoffman (Capote) - agree
2006- Whitaker (Last King of Scotland)- agree- did absolutely nothing for his career though.
2007- DDL (There Will Be Blood)- easily agree
2008- Rourke (The Wrestler)- over penn- one of the biggest robberies I've ever seen.

The ones I disagreed with:

2000: Crowe over Hanks

It takes some great acting to carry a movie that's 3 hours mainly about a dude living alone on an island. Crowe did nothing special in Gladiator. Hanks was very entertaining and made me LOVE watching a man build fires and talk to a ball for 2 1/2 hours. And the scene where he loses Wilson makes me tear up

2002: Brody over Day-Lewis

As usual, DDL was $$$ as Bill the Butcher while Adrien Brody was pretty good in his Polish-WWII part. GREAT acting > GOOD acting, hence Day Lewis > Brody.

I didn't think it was a robbery at all. It's harder to play the role of an ACTUAL person than it is to act as a made-up character. Any little mistake will show up when playing an actual person. Penn was perfect as Harvey Milk. Perfect. Rourke was good and he would have won in almost any other year, but not going against Penn's greatness as Harvey Milk.

DDL is much better than Brodie. not a robbery at all.

Leo (The Aviator)- over foxx

same as above. Leo much better than Foxx.

I agree with Marciano about Penn.

Despite the obvious political and social overtones surrounding Penn winning the award, he DID do a better job.

100% agree. Gladiator was going to win a bunch of awards that year and everyone knew it. American Beauty had won the year before and Gladiator was the only Epic out there.

I don't understand why Castaway doesn't get more love.

That's a toughie. While I loved both roles, Penn was amazing in Mystic River.

I don't think Whitaker needs anything done for his career. He can have just about any role he wants. He has played such a wide array of characters(Fast Times, Bird, Scotland). I'm pretty sure he is universally agreed to be an A-List top notch actor, maybe only a tick below DDL and Hopkins (for example).

2000 and 2001 winners actually should've been switched.

2000 - Denzel was much better and did an amazing job in "Hurricane"

2001 - Crowe was great in "A Beautiful Mind", and Washington was good in "Training Day"

I honestly think that 2001 was to correct the wrong of 2000, and it seems pretty obvious.
