Why Don't We Claim all our Football Championships?
Posted by lsufball19 on 2/22/10 at 9:37 am00
it seems like the status quo these days is to count any and every championship in college football, regardless of what poll names the champion. Alabama, ole Miss, and Tennessee come to mind. If you go to college football warehouse, by those teams' systems, we can claim 1908, 1934, 1935, 1958, 1961, 2003, and 2007. That gives us 7. I just hate it when people say Tennesee has 6 when they really only have two or when they say ole Miss when they really have 0. I mean it would just sound so much better to a recruit or just our national perception if we claimed all ours like everyone else does.

how much do you really want to be like Alabama?

1908 is really the only one that is legit.
Well, 1936 is sort of legit, except that there is the embarrassment from LSU having lost its Sugar Bowl game. I have no doubt that LSU would claim a title if they just didn't go to a bowl game at all that year, like Minnesota.
EDIT: If LSU wanted to be like Alabama, it would claim the '36 title, just like Bama claims the '73 title, despite having lost the Sugar Bowl to Notre Dame.

Because we are not everyone, we are LSU and don't feel the need to be petty like that ?

I have to agree. If those teams earned them, I would like to see them counted.
