Can someone tell me how this is set up? From what I have gathered there are 3 groups of 4 teams and it starts off with a round robin. Where does it go from there? Seems like there has to be either a wildcard or 2 teams get a bye? Fill me in.

after the preliminary round(which is going on now)
all 12 teams are will be ranked 1-12. The top 4 team automatically advance to quarter finals. The other 8 teams have to play in a playoff to see who goes to the quarterfinals.

Basically, if the US beats Canada in the prelims, they will be really set for a deep run.

If not, they are gonna have a much more difficult road, playing one more game, and against more difficult competition.
