So much was made of these two after the Texans took Williams first. Is that debate finally dead?

Bush - 1
Williams - 0

Don't think the debate is dead at all. True Reggie was on a team that won a Super Bowl, but one could argue that the Saints could have won the game without him.

Personally, I like Reggie and hope they keep him. But the debate is FAR from dead.

No. An all time great offense + great secondary + great DC covered up that we couldn't get shite in terms of front 4 pressure, one of the most important aspects of football. You can't tell me the difference between Grant and Williams is less than the difference between PT and Bush.

Williams is an elite defensive threat

you could argue whether Reggie is an elite offensive threat, but that would be a lot tougher sell

I think it boils down to who is more "valuable" to their team. Does our offense work as well without Bush? Maybe not honestly...I know we would still be potent, but he's huge as far as allowing Sean to do different things.

On the other hand, Mario probably causes just as much pressure on OC's...

May never really die, but I'll take the Super Bowl

your suckage in the thread was using a team accomplishment to compare to individuals

Never understood the Bush vs Williams debate. If anything, people should compare Bush to other running backs taken in the draft (Addai, Maroney, Deangelo Williams to name a few)

Value to their respective team was what I was trying to imply. Seems more appropriate for what is really the ultimate team sport...

Otherwise Marino would have like 10 rings..

The hype that is being the #1 pick in the draft I guess...

It's a legit debate if you're a Texans fan, but it's a clear answer for them.

For Saints fans, no way you compare him only to other RBs. Compare him to Brick (I'd take him, even though he started off a bit slowly) and Hawk (solid, far from spectacular, Bush I think wins). Pretty sure the Jets offered the #4 + their early second, which would have been the better deal. I wouldn't have been surprised if we used it on Mojo, Daniel Bullocks ( :vomit: ), or McNeil if we had taken Hawk.

I've always been a huge Reggie homer and I have his fathead on my office wall.

He wasn't on the field for our most important offensive plays in the NFCCG and Super Bowl.

I'd love to trade him and acquire picks. Pierre and a healthy Lance Moore and whoever we'd get with picks or that $8MM >>>>>>> Reggie.

I think we're set up perfectly to deal him. Everybody thinks that Payton "LOVES REGGIE". I don't know. Payton never puts Reggie on the field in key spots. He loves to run screens to PT, not Reggie. I think Payton and Loomis might surprise some people and neutralize our "penalty" of finishing in the top 8 and 4 by trading Reggie and aquiring picks.

Exactly. The guy can't just go around saying "I like Reggie, but he's definitely expendable." That would really hurt his trade value. He's got to be delicate in throwing out a possible willingness to deal Reggie, or even better, pray Carrol makes the first call.

I think it all revolves around bush. if he tries to force the issue and play out the contract the next two years without signing an extension they are going to have to do something with him. then of course, he may want to try and land somewhere that he can be the feature back, it wont happen here.

Pro Bowls

Williams-2
Bush-0

I think that is a more accurate way to do this than superbowls. As much as I love Reggie, I think we could have used Williams more. Think about if we had Williams and Smith on the d-line.

I like to think in terms of the economic value of Bush. He got a lot of people to start watching the saints, he sold a lot of jerseys and really popularized the 06 team regardless of what he did on the field. You rarely see a saints advertisement that doesn't have drew brees or reggie bush on it. He has been huge in terms of bringing an audience to the saints and not too many players can do that.

I guess I'm in the minority that wants Bush to stay in New Orleans.

I agree with your marketing point 100%. Reggie brought us star power and national appeal in 2006 when we needed it most.

For that reason alone he has served us very well. But now it's time to move on IF we can get exceptional value for him.

We don't need him anymore. We'd like to have him but we don't need him. And if we can get talent or picks and save $$ by dealing him I'm all for it.

williams in a landslide. bush has had his moments and really is implemented well in the saints' system. think he is really improving as a runner though.
