Sad. Seemed like a decent guy all around. Enjoyed him on the show.

Both of his sons are young and inexperienced and the deck boss who was the fill-in captain retired last season.

that really sucks, he was my favorite captain. he had to know his lifestyle was going to catch up to him. he didn't take the blood clot sign seriously and went right back to smoking and chugging red bull.

It happened during an offload, they are currently filming and the season is supposed to start in May or June.

Don't know yet, but the Cornelia Marie is heavily featured on the show and has a film crew on it the whole time. I'd wager that there is some footage of Phil having the stroke, but it won't make it on the air just to be respectful.
It will be interesting to see how Discovery Channel handles this. The show starts with king crab season which Phil captained. Then half way through it switches to Opilio season which Phil started but did not finish. They will probably show him leaving the boat for the offload then do a fade to black with some text describing what has happened. I can't imagine them showing him falling out on the dock.
