I thought the way it worked was playoff team players get money for each game, with the winners getting more than the losers. The deeper into the playoffs, the more money involved.

No...it's NOT built into their contracts...the winning players all receive a Superbowl check, I think it used to be about 50-60k and the losing players receive about half that !

The winning players in Super Bowl XLIV in Miami, Fla., on Feb. 7, 2010, will each receive a super-size paycheck to the tune of $83,000, while each member of the losing team will earn $42,000.

Along with that Players do have it in their contracts as incentives. For example, Reggie gets 500k from the Saints if we win.

some also have something built into their contract, reggie got 300k for Cardinals game, 500k for Vikings game and 500k if Saints win the SB.
