Is this the roughest football offseason for LSU fans in a while?

Usually LSU offseasons are filled with optimism with the hope that the team will either be elite or back to elite the following year. However, this seems to be a rough offseason.

- Fanbase divided on Miles' ability to lead LSU back. It doesn't matter which side of the fence you're on, but you have to admit there's people on both sides

- Lack of faith in Crowton and dissapointment that he wasn't fired.

- Tough schedule. Even if we play 'well', we could end up losing 4 which isn't very encouraging

- Loss of good offensive talent and lack of depth along the lines

- Loss to PSU left a bad taste. It was the worst way to end what was a shaky season.

- Overall, a lot of uncertainty about this team and the coaches

I can't remember another offseason like this and I for one can't wait until it's over with.

If we would have won our bowl game.....it would be much better.

Haven't had to go into an off-season w/ a bowl loss in a while.

The period between DiNardos 3rd and 4th year was not too much fun.

Our schedule is sooo over-hyped next season.

Everything negative seems to be overhyped and ampified when things aren't going well. Under normal circumstances, people would be raving about how well LSU would do and what a great national platform they have next year. It sucks.

I think we're going to be better than last season. At least more efficiently offensively. People are just preparing for the worst.

Our opponents on our schedule are being vastly overrated by LSU fans, though. Our schedule is actually semi-favorable considering how bad it could be. It's definitely our best even-numbered year schedule in a long time.

I hope you're right. I see UNC, WVU, Bama, Florida, Auburn and Arkansas as the core of a tough schedule. I don't see any gimmees there.

Did we play those four in an even-numbered year? We usually have to play a great Auburn and a great Florida team on the road in the same season.

This will be the year to steal one from Florida. Auburn's going to be ok, but it's not like you'll have to be a world-beater to go in there and get a win.

UNC and WVU will be quality opponents, but there's no excuse if they beat LSU. LSU will take care of business there.

Alabama will still be pretty great, but they have to reload their defense. They might also be a little soft next season coming off a national championship. Saban's 2004 LSU team was pretty soft compared to the year before, hopefully Alabama will be a little soft. Then again maybe Saban learned from his 2004 mistake and will have them more prepared for the season. It will be a tough game either way.

And Arkansas will be tough, no doubt about that. But if LSU still has something to play for the last week in the season, we'll be ready. And I think they will be.

throw in bama winning the title and yea it makes for a pretty rough offseason

and having recruits de-committing, isn't helping matters

Yes, I agree. I said in a post after the La Tech game that Les Miles has sucked the life out of LSU football and I stand by that statement. The evidence is the mood you just spoke about in your post.

Saban said the 2004 team was lazy and unconditioned coming into fall ball that season. He was pissed. They were soft coming off the title.

Yet LSU is reloading on offense and defense

They may be a little better than OK but LSU should still win the game.

8-4 max.

UNC will be a Top 15 team, with a Top 3 defense next season

LSU will be too. Top 15 wise, not defense. But that's against the ACC. LSU will beat UNC.

Not exactly, the defense was easily compared to the 2002 squad. The 03 squad was just unreal though, in 04 the offense was what took the biggest hit with the musical QB's.

yeah, those musical QBs gave up 45 points to UGA.

The roughest since the end of '04;Saban leaving, horrible bowl loss, LM hiring, loss of recruits due to Saban leaving, coaching staff leaving and hiring and finally the last minute signing of RP to put a positive spin on the whole offseason. This one feels about the same, though I'd have to say there are more positives with the coaching upgrades and a steady if not spectacular recruiting class and the early promise of possibly a #1 type class next season.

We won't suck, we'll be mediocre again. We'll lose to the top 25 teams on the schedule and squeak by the crappy teams, same as last 2 seasons. Unless you think Miles/Crowton will suddenly change their coaching style and actually have LSU prepared to play.
