Eating with Byron Jones. Chizek and Malzahn have been there along with Petrino over the last few weeks. LSU has too much catching up to do.

I think that Byron Jones is overrated, and I think it would be wise for us to go after Brandon Jackson or J.C. Copeland in Jones's stead...this is all assuming we cannot land Ego Ferguson, which remains to be seen.

I'd like to add that I don't think we're playing catch-up with recruits as much as we're playing catch-up with ourselves - this year's recruiting process has been very rocky with the departure or some coaches and with all the de-commitments. We're pretty much being reluctantly forced to fall-back on potentially offering a bunch of players that we had initially passed on and that we'd continue to pass on if we hadn't run into so much bad luck.

He will be another Marlon Favorite. Nothing more, nothing less.

The odds of us landing Jermauria Rasco in the 2011 class drastically rises with the commit of Brandon Jackson - I think Jackson should be 3rd (at the lowest) on our list or guys to get right now.

Who happens to be on an NFL practice squad right now and played the run well for 3 years.

LSU blew it on Jones. His film is better than Brandon Jackson's, and he gives us much needed size. Everyone is overlooking the fact that we don't have any size anymore at DT. It's not talent that we lack at all, it's simply size.

I wasn't saying it was a bad thing.

It's not just size but talented size. Davenport and Brockers will help in this area.

Brockers was a DE at this time last year. I'm talking about guys who can hold up against an Alabama double team, which Davenport is the only guy I see with that type of size.

Disagree. He plays at a small school, but he was dominate. He is strong as an ox. What he needs is another big time DT to pair with him. That is why I want him at AU to pair with Whitaker.

And if LSU offers I expect Jones to accept. He is a lifelong LSU fan.

Being dominant at a small school and being strong as an ox (nice simile, by the way) does not make you fit to play the most physically demanding position and playing that position in the SEC.

The aspects of Jone's that you've pointed out are the only reason that he's rated a 4-star, and his stock has dropped steadily over the course the last several months.

We'll fall back on him if we have to.

I really do like that he's been a life-long LSU fan. If we get him, I hope we can make the best of what he has to offer and get him a chance to set foot on the field that he loves.

DaveDog why are you just now joining the board?

Seems like you have some good insight you've been keeping yourself.

Hey Dan, I suppose that I was never one for chats or blogs, so I just sort of skipped-out on Tiggerdroppings. I've found it now, though, and I've decided to give it a go.

Thank you, Dan.

We offer he is ours...

He just never got to camp to be evaluated.

Actually being unnaturally strong is one of the requirement to play that position in a 4-3. He needs to be able to hold his ground.

The best example I can think of is Jay Ratliff for the Cowboys. He is only about 300 lbs, but dominates at his position.

Another example is Josh "Stump" Thompson. He played at AU 04-07. He was 6'0 300lbs and was the leading tackler on our team when we had the #5 scoring D in 2007. But he had a great motor.

I will admit Ive never seen Jones play. But he has the measurables.

What is your opinion on Turner? He is 5'11 200lbs and runs track. He could play S. Might not be a bad package deal. I promise I would trade our Jr S Mike Slade for Turner right now, sight unseen.
