It provides an in-depth and much needed analysis into one very important reason why the dominant talent LSU has recruited has failed to result in dominant teams.

The reason the dominant talent failed to result in dominant teams was lack of dominant character. Many of those who left or were kicked off the team had dominant character flaws. They just prove that character counts especially in recruiting.

Need to stay in state-breaking it down further 70% of this attrition is from out of state recruits.

2 Things to note. UF's classes were much better than ours in those 3 years you've surveyed:

By Rivals alone:
2005 - 15
2006 - 2
2007 - 1

LSU's?
2005 - 22
2006 - 7
2007 - 4

So in every year that you analyzed, they out-recruited LSU.

2) Their coaching, particular on defensive weren't crap, particularly at the DL. They got hurt by their departures a bit, but had enough people at that position. The issue for LSU was poor QB recruiting (UF had 3 basic 5* in 3 consecutive years). LSU skipped a year, which was the problem.

When you convert more than half of your Defensive tackle prospects to OL because you recruited head cases at those positions, who is ultimately responsible?

I'd say there's marginal difference in a #1 class and a #4 class. Probably slightly greater in a #2 and a #7. But yes, by and large they did a better job of stockpiling talent - especially in a need basis.

Yeah, I agree. They have done a better job of recruiting and coaching on the whole. Specifically at the position level.

Our coordination wasn't bad at all from 05-07 (Jimbo, Pelini and GC year 1). But our DL really regressed because Lane was a bad coach and Peveto was bad too. Mallory can hold his own coaching a position, just can't coordinate a defense to save his life.

I think the hires we've made this offseason and last (Cooper, Chavis, Gonzales and Wilson - vote is still out on Haley), will make significant strides in improving the overall coaching of our individual positions. I also think we're doing a much better job of recruiting for need and filling out problem areas.

I know Miles takes a ton of flack on here and I'm very skeptical of him, but I think the data shows there's a lot more to our issues than just "we have the talent and a coach who can't coach em up" or "he can't manage the clock." We were severely lacking in several areas and we're just NOW catching up. Especially when you consider the bulk of that attrition is from the 05 and 06 classes which should now be the senior leadership of the team.
