Okay food gurus question for you all.

I am a LONG time cast iron cooker and really enjoy cooking out of them, however my wife for whatever reason isn't a huge fan of cast iron. She would prefer the cast iron that is coated in what appears to be some sort of ceramic style coating.

From what I can see first off the ceramic style stuff is MUCH more expensive. However they do seem to be well made and have very tight fitting lids that I like with my black iron pots I've used for over 20 years. I also like the no stick properties of the cast iron, I am thinking the coated guys aren't non stick.

Do any of you all have any personal experience with the coated type pots? (My wife likes the idea of these as they won't mark up the inside of the cabinets when they sit there mainly)

They're great, easy to cleanup, there's no seasoning required. You can get a relatively cheap (around $40) one at Sams or Walmart.

They are more expensive but unless you go with Le Creuset it shouldnt be that much more.. The enable will eventually come off on many brands. Le Creuset will last the longest by far. But you can get good deals on these at SAMS. They are pretty much nonstick.

I got a piece of Le Creuset for Christmas that I really like cooking with, but I've never cooked with cast iron before this, so I'm not sure of the difference. I have an enamel coated skillet (Le Creuset) and I have 2 ceramic coated dutch ovens (Sam's/Walmart brand) and I like both of them a whole lot. They are both non-stick as far as I can tell, and very easy to clean.

To me there is nothing more irritating than a cast iron pot with a crappy fitting lid. One of the main advantages of them is the weight of the lid making a tight fit!

I have a great pot but the damn lid is very heavy and very tight on one end but the other end is lifted a little bit. Just got the damn thing and didnt notice this when i bought it. I may end up just getting a stainless lid for when I make jambalaya. I think Im losing too much steam and its having an effect on the doneness of my rice.

Be careful with cleanup or you'll end up with rust on the ceramic coating.

yep got a cast iron lid.. Its heavy as shite but my guess is that its pretty hard to make the lid that big and not have any issues with it fitting really tight.

Hmmm there is a railroad crossing on the way home......

Ceramics cook great. Clean up and care is much easier with the ceramic as well.

The main difference is you don't get the flavor that a good old cast iron pot imparts.

Lodge actually has 2 ceramics series. One is quite a bit cheaper than the Le Creuset too. Got mine at Goodwood Hardware and love it.

I got this 9qt for Christmas. $50 is probably a lil steep for this size pot. But, the lid makes it worth it.
