Why is he listed as a Sophomore on LSU's 2010 football roster? Didn't he redshirt last season? He didn't play in any games last season did he?

yes he redshirted. dandy don has him as a RSFR

He played. LSU has to apply for a medical waiver to get a redshirt year.

Im pretty sure he played Special team and was then held out for his wrist. He wont be granted his extra year till after his SR year, but wont stay that long anyway.

No. He applies for medical redshirt after this season. Different from medical hardship

This is false. You get medical waivers immediately if approved.

I dont think thats true if you actually play as Loston did.

Med redshirt is after the year in question and is intended to award a redshirt even if the player played a minimal amount in the beginning of the year.
Hardship is at the end of eligibility if the player missed two or more years due to injury and is meant to extend his eligibilty.

Sure it is. His eligibility was burned with one play. He has to apply for a medical waiver to get a year of eligibility back. This is done all the time.

The first time. When it happens a second time it becomes applicable only after the completion of a 5th season and a review by the NC2A.

Right. See Charles Alexander.

True, but it really depends on whether or not the player redshirted. If he didn't redshirt, then this is correct. If he redshirted, then it is really just a formality to pave the way for the second time. Currently you have 5 yrs to play 4. The medical redshirt is designed to give a player who didn't redshirt and had a early season ending injury a chance to play those 4 years. The hardship waiver is really a waiver of the 5 yr rule. If you redshirt and only have one season ending injury, you will not get the hardship waiver and the medical redshirt is irrelevant.

His red shirt has not been aproved by the NCAA yet. It is 50-50 because he did play on some special teams early in the season.
