Long story short. My wife and I ended up with seats in section 645 at the very top of the dome Saturday. Unfortunately, I was unaware that this was a smoking section. Our seats had a small platform where the fire hose is located. This platform will hold about 15-20 people. All game, every minute or so new faces from around the dome came up to smoke behind us. Very annoying! Of course I complained and ask the people to please stop since if they didn't care about their health to at least show some concern for the people that do. The response was F- you and shut up cause I was new to the section and they were all season ticket holder and that smoking in section 645 is a tradition.
What does everyone else think about this tradition? To me it is nasty and for people to force their bad habits up your nose is just rude. On the bright side one of the smokers behind us fell in my wifes seat head first in the concrete when Reggie Bush scored on the punt return.

If it's marked as a smoking section, then there's not much you can do about it.

I think that they should let people know before they purchase their ticket that it's a smoking section, though.

I hate when anyone smokes inside or by me, but if it is designated as a smoking area, then you can't do anything about it.

That's why there are cops all over. If you tried to handle it yourself you're a dumbass.

No smoking in the Dome--no designated areas inside. There are two gates you can go outside, smoke, and come back in.

All you have to do is call the "fan assistance" number that is posted all over the dome, and tell them what is going on. They will position one of the dome security guards up there. That would have solved your problem.

And tradition?? I have never heard of this tradition. Now smoking in the bathrooms, I wouldn't say it was a tradition, but it sure as heck is annoying and has been going on for a long time.

Is it too hard for these people to go to the designated smoking areas if they want to kill themselves and smell like rotten a-hole?

not marked, smoking in the dome all together is not allowed. the smoking section is a gated off section outside of the dome.

There is no proven link between second hand smoke and cancer.

You're a fricking Douche that attended his first game in that section and you are demanding that everyone change to accommodate you. Self-centered much.

How can they allow smoking in a closed in arena? This is 2010. not 1955.

Nowadays, for helath reasons, smoking is banned in outdoor stadia.

How about the proven link between second hand smoke and smelling like rotten, burnt arse?

I defend smokers right to smoke all the time because it's not right to tell others what to do or not do. But in this situation, the rules are clear. NO SMOKING IN THE DOME!!!!!!!! You are the one breaking rules. Out in public, smoke away because I can always choose to move away from you or visit establishments that do not allow smoking.

Take your stinking arse to the designated smoking areas, or leave. Period.

It is likely a tradition; however, it is likely against Superdome policy. Ever since the Mora Days which I remember all the True Saints fans sat up in the top and smoked as a group. The cops never went up there because:

1) nobody would complain because at that time whoever was against smoking knew this and simply paid for the higher priced seats to get away from the W/T and smoking.

2) Before 1997, there was only one portal to get to your seats which is located all the way at the bottom of the terrace row 5, so a cop would have to lug his NOLA fat donut filled arse to row 47 to prevent smoking. Hence, you never saw a cop up there enforcing regulations unless you saw a crowd cheering a fight.

Now that its hard to get a ticket you'll take any ticket which is what happened in your case. All the W/T hate guys like you who are now raining on their parade just like the cops recently rained on the wall banging and put a stop to it. Does anyone know the reasoning? Damage maybe?

I hate the smoking as much as you do.

So what you're saying is that only low rent, broke arse, nasty smokers hangout in the upper decks?

10-4.

FWIW - I don't think the OP meant to sit there. That's why he said "We ended up in section ___". Had he known you and your buddies were up there puffing away and stinking up the section, he'd have avoided you I'm sure.

Amazing in this day and age they still allow smoking. Towns ban i ton beaches now and everywhere, except casinos, ban smokking. Some day the sixties will hit Louisiana and maybe even the 70s.

The Dome doesn't. That's the point. They just turn a blind eye because the smokers congregate up there and since the smoke rises (temporarily) they figure only the smokers are affected. If it's against the rules, they should stop. Once they are outside, they are free to smoke anywhere they want, so long as it's not banned.

They are wrong, as the OP stated.

The OP complained about health reasons. That is what I addressed.

I don't smoke and I don't show up one day to a place I've never been and ask everyone to change to accommodate me.
