I was wondering about that yesterday. The ref called two penalties against Cards and one against the Saints. Then he said the penalties offset themselves. I understand that two of the personal fouls offset each other, but the other personal foul for Cards should have been counted as a penalty. Am i missing something from that call?

i was curious about the 3 personal foul calls that offset, what is up with that, shouldn't the first 2 offset then the saints get 15 yards tacked on for the 2nd one on the Cards?

The unnecessary roughing of Warner on the INT got me thinking as well, why does that penalty negate the play? Why isn't it just tacked on to the end? It in no way effects Warner throwing the ball. Seems like every other personal foul is just tacked on.

If I remember correctly, that was the exact situation of the Turley incident, we got pushed 15 yards back after 2 PF on us and 1 on them.

That was the play i was talking about. They called two personal fouls on cards and one on saints for fighting or something. There were 3 penalties total, with two against the cards. So how does all 3 offset?

I think it's just the way the wording is in the book. Penalties on both teams like that will offset. You'll see 50 yard pass interference penalties offset by a 10 yard holding call. Just the letter of the law that keeps the officials from having to do math

I was more annoyed that 73 threw a fricking punch and wasn't ejected.

Yes but in that case wouldn't you rule the first two penalties offset, and the third one would be charged against the Cards? There was no fourth penalty against the Saints to offset the third one on the Cards.

Because technically when that foul happened it was still Arizona ball. I agree with you that it had no offense and they should change the lettering or verbiage of the rule but I doubt it will ever happen.

you should pro rate the penalties ... 2 15 yarders against our 15 yard = 15 yards on them ... problem solved
