Being that there was the UA all star game recently, I thought some of the board would like to discuss the different players all within one thread. I'll give my thoughts on a collection of different players:

Dominic Easley--Wow this kid can play. He quickly made a name for himself. If you didn't come away impressed watching the game, then you must have had it on the wrong channel. He has a great motor, good speed, solid moves, great explosiveness, and good size. He has the "it" factor you look for in elite defensive players.

Da'Rick Rogers--I came away puzzled with this guy. He had more balls thrown his way than just about any player to ever play in an all-star game. Yet, he dropped the ball a ton and didn't capitalize on his opportunities. He has a great frame and tremendous abilities, but he performed poorly in the game. I expected much more. I still think he is an elite talent, however.

Michael Taylor--He is bigger than I expected. Played a great game and ended up winning an MVP. I wish we could have landed him.

Lamarcus Joyner--I will put my name all over this one--BUST. He has bust written allllllllllll over him. I am shocked that the services have him in the top 10. He is 5'8 165 lbs!!!!! He is a top 100 player, but not a top 10 player. Mike Davis (who isn't even a tall player) jumping over him is a perfect example of how he will be abused at the next level. He talked shite the whole game. The play that stands out the most in when Mike Davis was wide open on a 7 yard curl, but Montana overthrew him. Then Joyner starting jumping up and down yelling like he had actually done something

Joshua Shaw--handled himself very well on interviews and looks great on the cuff.

Demar Dorsey--Wow I came away impressed. He did have the fumble on the punt return, but he has great size and athleticism. He has the "it" factor. He is going to be a name everyone knows at UF in the coming years. Tremendous prospect.

Jonathon Dowling--Two interceptions in the game. Definitely had an impressive game.

Devon Gardner--I wasn't all that impressed. He wasn't as smooth running as I would have liked to see. He is a poor man's VY.

Darius White--I was surprised his lack of fluidity. I know he had the TDs, but looking past that, he just didn't look smooth running around out there. I'm kind of scratching my head here. Athletic guy, but not so sure about him anymore.

Chase Rettig--For whatever reason, he impressed me. I feel like he is someone that understands the game. I liked the way he approached the game. I didn't know much about him going in, but came away impressed. I think BC got a good one.

Jesse Scroggins--Not your typical USC QB. He could be a good one after sitting behind Matt B. for a few years. He was under so much pressure during the game that I don't think we got a fair look at him. He is fairly elusive and had good zip on the ball.

Phil Sims--I was expecting to see a bust prospect....but came away impressed. He has a big arm and looked pretty composed. I don't think he is ready to play in the SEC yet, but with a couple years of development, BAMA could have a strong QB.

Hubbard--6'7 227 DE. Needs to put on weight, but the kid has some talent.

Nick Montana--Living some off his dad's name. Not your typical arm strength from elite prospects. Telegraphs passes and will need a lot of development. Sarkisian could turn him into a good one though.

Mike Davis--Pretty good looking player. He will play early at UT. He has been discussed ad nauseum on this board.

Travis Dickson--Big guy. Showed some athleticism, but looks more like a DE than a TE with the way he is built right now. I think he is more athletic than Richard.

Storm Johnson--Good prospect, but overrated by ESPN. Good balance, but fumbled once. Not great speed, but made solid cuts.

Michael Dyer--showed elite speed and quickness on that shovel pass. I was shocked just how fast he appeared. Didn't have many opportunities past that. I think AU gets a great player that lives up to 5 star potential.

Justin Hunter--Impressive on the cuff. Needs to continue to add weight. Potential through the roof.

Jeff Luc--The form tackle he had on Gardner was text book. I am interested to see how he covers the pass in college.

Chris Dunkley--Didn't show me as much as I expected. I think he is a solid prospect, but for whatever reason, I didn't come away extremely impressed. He didn't have a ton of opportunities, but he didn't stand out as much as I thought he would for being considered an "elite" prospect.

Blake Bell--Overrated. I think he will be a bust as well. Not a fan of him.

Those come to mind now. I didn't get a good enough look at Muncie or Washington so I won't comment there.

Wow, you must not sleep at all. Good assessments though. Joyner did puzzle me with all the antics, and White did make the most of his opportunities in the game.

I pretty much agree with ur assessments, although was impressed with white. Easley was def the best player on either side and will terrorize sec qbs the next 4yrs. Washington held his own when I watched him. Good feet and used arms well. Muncie also played pretty good and had a breakup and covered te well. Good tackler. No misses I saw.

Since you're doing these for guys who obviously aren't only LSU, any input on James Louis and Corey Brown.

And wasn't Jordan Hicks in this game?

As always

I was really, really shocked at how skinny he was. They had a close up on him at one point in the game and his arms were literally twigs.

IMO, you can never deduce much of anything from these games.

Bryce Brown looked like a man amongst boys in last year's Army Game and he was certainly a solid college back, but nothing out of this world.

Patrick Turner is another that comes to mind who lit it up all week during the Army game and went on to be nothing more than a solid contributor at USC.

Some of the kids come motivated to play hard and shine and a lot of them just don't care coupled with the fact that it's a week of practice with generic schemes etc. Hard to get a read on anyone.

Good job Lynx.I agree about Joyner.Think he will probably end up on offense at FSU.His speed and quickness is better for that side o the ball.Size will be a huge detriment for him at cb.Dorsey was very impressive.Other than Easley, he was the best player I saw.Chase Rettig was the most impressive qb there in my opinion. Not the most talented but knows his skills and puts them to use.Hubbard will be a beast.Amazing athleticism for a guy his size.Dyer is special.Best rb in the country easily.Dunkley has great straight line speed but is not very shifty.I know he was probably given the Percy lines but is no where near that type of player.Dubose is a much better prospect if his injury doesn't take some of his explosiveness away.

He'll be better next year IMO... Hardesty is graduating so it will be him taking the majority of the carries...

Oh I agree. I'm not demeaning Brown, he'll be a very nice player.

I'm just saying at the AA game he looked like the number 1 player in America BY FAR. Then he gets on campus and he's a back up and didn't just blow anyone away when he came in (example being a guy like Trent Richardson who looked extremely good at Bama when playing).

Lynx, something I came away from the game with was the lack of lock down CB's in this class or I shouldmsay potentual lock down CB's. I think we got a good class of DB's last year if we can only teach them so that our safeties can have the freedom to blitz as the game goes along. To me that is the one thing that is hurting our defensive schems more than anything. Last years class was head and shoulders above this years class in my opinion.

another name that comes to mind is Daquan Bowers. He was lights out in the AA game now not so much with Clemson. He is good, but not the force you saw in that game.

He reminded me of a young a young Terrance Tolliver or Brandon Lafell. Very atheletic but must gain mass to be effective at the next level.

Joyner a bust?

Not even close. First of all, these all star are for fun and you cant take anything away from them. What Joyner lacks in size he makes up for in excellent speed and acceleration. He needs some polish in his technique but has all the coveted traits you look for accept ideal height. He will get coached up at FSU and plays like the one against Mike Davis wont happen.

He displays great range and makeup speed. His recovery burst and breaking quickness may be the best in this class. Reads the play quickly and covers a ton of ground in a hurry. Closes hard and shows deceptive explosiveness on contact. Delivers a great pop and runs through all his tackles. His run support skills, nose for the football and overall physicality are outstanding. Safety is not out of question in the right scheme and he should immediately challenge for early playing time as a nickel corner. Overall, Joyner is an exciting athlete and potentially a future difference maker on defense. If he doesnt work out on defense, then you move him to wide receiver. No fricking way is Joyner a bust.

Joyner will not and is not a top 5 talent. Someone his size should not be ranked at that elite of a spot.

Is Joyner a top 50-60 prospect? Yes.
Top 10? No.

For reference, Patrick Peterson was considered the best CB prospect to come out in a decade and he was ranked #7 nationally. Peterson has ideal size and everything you look for in a CB prospect. Joyner does not.

I take Peterson over Joyner any day of the year as prospects. Peterson is a sure thing. Joyner is not.

Joyner is going to be a decent player, but no Terell Buckley. And when was the last time fsu coached anyone up. Their roster is littered 4 and 5* kids that have lately, not lived up to the hype.

So is every player who has the misfortune of not being Patrick Peterson a bust as well?

He is a bust if he stays ranked as the #5 player nationally in the country.

There is a completely different standard of expectation between the top 10 nationally and someone in the 50-100 range.

Joyner could potentially live up to a high 4 stars ranking so I wouldn't jump on him calling him a bust if he was ranked there.

I do not see him being able to live up to a top 10 standard.
