I realize I'm almost 40 years late on viewing this movie, but I just caught it yesterday on AMC. Great movie. Very little dialogue. I thought Redford did a very good job.

Not a top ten movie by any stretch, but I'd highly recommend it.

Yeah, it's a good movie. Iconic in a way. The sound track is really dated, but the story is cool. Most people put it in the western genre, but it doesn't really fit there.

Jeremiah Johnson: Where you headed?
Del Gue: Same place you are, Jeremiah: hell, in the end.

Yeah, I didn't think a movie like that would be quite so quotable. Good stuff.

Definitely under appreciated. Some scalps and horses got him an Indian bride, not too shabby.

Just ran across my favorite:

I, Hatchet Jack, being of sound mind and broke legs, do leaveth my rifle to the next thing who finds it, Lord hope he be a white man. It is a good rifle, and kilt the bear that kilt me. Anyway, I am dead. Sincerley, Hatchet Jack.

This is a great movie. It was made more to show the hardships and toughness of the American Mountain men than it was to have a story or plot. The actual storyline is nothing superb but the dipiction of mountain man life is excellent. If you liked JJ and Redford then check out "The Electric Horseman" it's a modern western so to say, not anything like Jeremiah Johnson except for the raw dudeness of the charecters. It also has one of the greatest chase scenes of all time.
