Towards the end of the first half, SP decided not to go for it on 4th and inches from his own 30 or 40 yard line. At the time, we were up by 17 and seemed like a "no-brainer". After that, seems like the offense went into the tank. What say you?

WHO DAT!

It's pretty obvious.

Just seemed like Brees was pissed at the decision and the O went into the tank after that.

I know, Monday morning QB and all that BS.

I'm pretty sure it was closer to the 30... you don't go for a 4th down up by 17 in the opponents field goal range.

and with 2+ minuets with a offense who can't score on you yeah you punt it you don't want to fail a fourth down give it to them in good field position and let the other team back in the game to much risk up by 17

Unfortunately, our D thought the same thing and TB went 8 plays, 52 yards, in 1:45 for a field goal. And that's where the game changed.

What do you want when your coach calls the game like a coward. Any coach in the league with a Drew Brees led offense would have went for it and finished the game in the 1st half. What does Payton do? Kicks a field goal, then calls a bunch of pathetic runs the rest of the way. Runs that didn't even work and did nothing but keep Tampa in the game until they eventually won. Any idiot would have known the running game went down the drain when Pierre Thomas got injured.

I didn't see the game, I listened on WWL, but I don't remember a lot of running in the second half. I remember 3-n-outs passing...and I remember a fumble, and I remember a 98 yard scoring drive... I'm debating on whether to watch the replay.

I do agree that we didn't play aggressively enough on 4th downs, especially the 4th and 1 in the fourth quarter, when they returned a punt for a TD.

I'm really sick over this game. Offense, defense, special teams...the whole experience sucked from the end of the 1st half on. I just don't understand WTF happened to this team.

We had 4 and inches 3 times in the game due to our WR's trying to stutter step the CB instead of putting their head down and getting the 1st down.

Colston did this twice and Meachum once.
Colston's fumble was a huge mistake.

No. That was the right call. The WRONG call was taking a FG on 4th and < 1 on the TB 10 to go up 17-0

4th and 1 at TB 10 (Field Goal formation) G.Hartley 28 yard field goal is GOOD, Center-J.Kyle, Holder-M.Brunell.

At that point, the TB offense was struggling and we were playing well on O. You have confidence in your offense to get the fricking yard and you pick up 7. SP acted like a scared little bitch, and he got punked.

I know you are a troll and all, but damn, I don't think I've ever heard a fan call out SP for being too conservative

In this game, he's exactly right. SP called this game like a pansy.

That worked out awesome. We need to go for the throat. frick 3 points FROM THE 10 YARD LINE ON 4th AND <1 in the first half when we're playing well on both sides of the ball. It's how we played the first half of the season and it's the ONLY way this team closes games. Conservative play calling WILL get us one and done in the PO's.

Many would argue Payton's conservative playcalling all this year has led to an improved record. Running the ball more than in previous years.

Running the ball does not = conservative play calling. FG's from the opponents 10, not stacking the box against the run in OT, screens and draws when the opposing D IS stacking the line = conservative.

Had SP run the ball on 4th and <1 from their 10 we'd have picked up the 1st and more than likely been up 21-0 at half. All other things being equal, THAT would have been the difference in the game.

Or we miss it, lose the game, and people cast stones at him for that.

We had safeties coming up the whole period and it just didn't help

could it be possible that with a D stacking the line, we expected a blitz, when a screen pass would be the perfect call?
