my 4 year old little brother plays the crap out of my old Play Station 2. He plays the old NCAA football and mlb baseball. He sits there and plays for hours, haha he loves it and not only that, but he learns a lot about the game from that. He always uses LSU and wants to play "The green T's" (TULANE) i guess even a 4 year old knows who to play for an easy win
haha but if your son is into sports this could be a good consideration.

don't get him games, make him go outside and play, OBAMA WANTS HIM TO.

Or if you dont wanna get him somethin where he just sits and uses his thumbs, try out a Wii. Its good for the entire family and will keep him moving and active. Its just a little more expensive than a DS

Dont buy him a game system...if i could go back instead of choosing to play the ps2 i would go back and play outside with friends...you can play the ps3 your whole life, you can only run around and play hide and go seek once.

I agree with what you are saying, but if his kid is 5, its not like he couldnt regulate how much time he plays whatever system he buys for his kid. I recommended a Wii because that promotes movement and activity, but some games might be a little too challenging for a 5 year old. Whatever system you go with, just regulate his time on it and be firm on those regulations so that isnt all he does.

My 5 year old brother loves his psp. He plays the hell out of Ratchet and Clank, and so does my dad. My sister's 9 and loves her DS. I think either is a good choice mainly because they have a game they can sit and play, and it doesn't take up a TV.

just make sure you monitor how much he's playing.

Get him a Wii or a DS. Get a Wii if you think the rest of the family might want to get involved too. Nintendo systems tend to be geared more towards kids and family friendly games. Mario and things of that nature as opposed to more violent action type games. If he's into sports an original xbox (360 is overkill for a 5 year old) or a ps2 would be good.

DS Lite for the game system with Mario Cart and Super Mario Brothers is all a 5 year old will need.

psp's are good because you can take them anywhere and play them on road trips
