There is some serious silliness in this place. When Nick Saban was here he diagnosed it: catastrophe syndrome.
Somehow, our football program that is top 5 or 10 in every ranking that matters and is part of the championship conversation on a regular basis is "headed off a cliff."
If you don't appreciate the job that Les Miles has done at LSU you are living in some kind of college football video game, disconnected from reality.
I would put these delusionals in the same category with those who believe that George Bush ordered the planes into the towers and Obama was born in Kenya.
That category is: people who are presented with mounds of empirical evidence pointing to one unavoidable conclusion but insist on believing the opposite based on their hunches, superstitions, and feelings.
Apparently, whether or not the team is "enjoyable" to watch lately outweighs a coach's ability to pile up wins, recruits, and bowl wins like no other coach in the University's history.
If you're interested in Miles' fate, you should ask Joe Aleva. If Joe Aleva could build himself a head football coach from scratch, it would be Les Miles. If you don't understand why, then you don't understand college athletics.

We'd still be colonists of Britain if it were up to you guys and we'd be called Negacolonists because we see issues that you choose to blindly ignore. But hey, 3-5 in the SEC last season, worst since Gerry DiNardo's 2-8 season means nothing to you. It's all about catastrophe. No, it's about noticing instead of ignoring.

Maybe one day you'll have to chance to be judged by worst season of work. If you are, I hope it's as good (relatively speaking) as going 8 and 5, whooping arse in your bowl game (again), turning your defense and ball security issues 180 degrees in the right direction, and recruiting the number one class in the country.
Last year does mean something to me. What last year proved is that if the team starts to generate its own adversity, Miles will fix the problem. A lot of coaches (cf. Dinardo, Mora) won't adjust out of pride, stubbornness, etc. Miles isn't one of those guys. That's what I noticed.

You make very good points, but surely you can understand the frustration with lost opportunities fans have had these past two years.
It's not a matter of whether or not the team is good or bad; it's a relative matter, what could have been with what is.

Miles is 7-7 in his last 14 SEC games dating back to last season. Even if he wins out thats a 56% win percentage in conference games. Not good enough, not even close. Whats really alarming is last season was his first season with "his" players.

"His" players coming off a BCS championship. After removing RP from the team (as he should), Miles had to go to a transfer QB, a redshirt freshman QB, then to a true freshman QB. Not to mention the trainwreck of co-defensive coordinators, which he has greatly improved upon in the last year with Chavis, Haley and Cooper.
Sure the QB progression isn't there yet. But who thought Jefferson and/or Lee would light it up in 2009? The run game suffers because of the passing game ineffectiveness. LSU has had offensive firepower in the last 7-8 years. No reason they can't return.
I'd also like to point out that the 2005 recruiting class was limited by the departure of Saban and the hiring of Miles. This didn't leave much time to make up ground on those who abandoned the commitments. 2006 class was solid, 2007 was great, etc. It takes time to get that class back.
The only complaint I have is the offensive line attrition. That has to improve if LSU is to dominate the line of scrimmage again.

Expectations can and should be high, but they also have to be realistic. LSU, and any great football program, will have runs of excellence interspersed with periods of pretty good success. LSU had a great run from 03-07, the kind of run that FL and AL are on now.
The reason no one picked LSU to compete for championship this year or last is because of inexperience at quarterback. That view turned out to be basically correct. "What could have been" according to most everyone who ventured to say is, in fact, "what is."
You can't have all of the pieces in place every single year. That doesn't happen anywhere. Look at Bryant, Bowden, and Paterno, the most successful college football coaches of all time. All three experienced mediocre seasons (5-7 losses) in amongst undefeated seasons and national championships.
In college football your best players leave the team after every year. Coordinators at top programs leave to be head coaches. New talent has to be recruited and hired. Every year the team is different. Results will vary. Miles usually finds good people and sheds his mistakes quickly.
Sure, I wish Miles would appoint a clock czar and I hope we all look at Crowton differently once he has an experienced Jefferson who can execute his plays. The big picture, though, is that this program is hitting its marks.

No. There's nothing scary about 11-2, or even 10-3, if we're lucky enough to see it. That would be awesome. Maybe finished off with a dismantling of Penn State in the Cap One?
