For those who don't understand... Saban on CSS

Saban has his press conference at 11:00 am on CSS. Now, if you listen to him speak in the terms he speaks in, the things he is teaching his players, to develop them into smarter and more disciplined players, and the process it takes to be successful. It is more than just using your God given talent. When he talks, there is meaning to what he says, there is substance to his messege to the media and to his players. Listen to Miles, none of that. He talks in circles. When he finishes talking, nothing. He has said nothing. This is the point some of us are trying to get across. The leadership, mental ability that Saban instilled in his players is the differance in him and Miles. Miles is a great recruiter, but a horrible developer of talent, discipline, and leadership. The success he had at the beginning is because of the fact that enough players remained that had Saban's pesonallity, that they were the leaders and kept it going. But, slowly that became watered down until we got to the point we are at now. No discipline, leadership, and players that just are not smart on the field. Miles says after every game that we have to coorect things ( problems ) but the same things continue game after game. There is so much more than just physical ability in this game at this level, and Miles just does not know how to teach the players that all important mental side of the game.

Nail on head!!!!
Hester, Flynn, Dorsey, Steltz, Highsmith = Coaches on the field...Name one player we have now that comes close to the level of mental discp and leadership on the field. A system was installed...the coach left his players didn't. Now the system is not being installed anymore thus our current state of affairs. It's really not that HARD to figure out.

Saban > Miles
You have proven your point. That's an easy one.
Now, can disprove the Theory of Relativity?

Carroll talks about the exact same things, only better than Saban.
His Testicles are hanging in the Stanford Fieldhouse....but he speaks well.
So WTF is your point?
What about Urban, he talks about the same shite, but his players tried to gouge out the eyes of an opponent.......where is your glory to Urban post.
To contrast two styles:
Mack Brown follows the EXACT pattern as Miles and his team is fixing to play for the NC....what say you about him?
Ty Willingham spoke of discipline and development quite well too, that SOB is running a car wash.

Les Miles is not being compared to the actual legacy of Nick Saban, he's been compared to the Myth. Saban's teams never blew a lead, never committed a bad penalty, never had a blitz that didn't work, and never ran a play that failed to make a first down. Saban won every game except for those that weren't his fault, his players loved him like a father, and they always gave 110% on every play. Nick Saban is partly responsible for this myth as he's a capable manipulator of his public image and he's done everything he can to create the image of the Perfect Coach. But shame on LSU fans for still buying the Myth.

t's time to appreciate the great program we actually have and not this imaginary one built up in our minds that would have occurred had the NFL never come calling. The best way to move on is this. Find any person who refers to this game as the Saban Bowl, and punch them in the face. Trust me, they deserve it. The head coach of Alabama is the enemy, but only because he is the head coach of Alabama. He's never coming back, so stop pretending he will and stop building his legend. Stop living in 2003, a lot of cool things have happened since then.
Time to Move On

Thanks chief. In case you didn't know LSU didn't fire Saban to hire Les. I think some of you idiots completely ignore the fact that Saban left us, not the other way around.

Of all the changes that Coach Saban has made while he's been at Bama, to me this is the most obvious. He has been able to "get in the players heads" in a very short period of time. He changed the way they think and the way they react. He's been able to instill in them the will to be better, and not just on the football field.
He's a man with a purpose and his players take on his personality. One announcer made a comment Saturday night that Rolando McClain is Saban on the field. He plays, thinks and leads the defense like Saban would do if he were on the field playing.

I don't buy that.
I believe Les is being compared to Saban the last two years. Saban entered a Bama program that was down talent wise and not very well conditioned. He now in his 3rd year is about to complete a 2nd undefeated regular season. Name me one other coach that has every accomplished this, other than '90's Miami.

I would have thought the system AND coaches could have done better than 8-5.
shite NO SYSTEM, no coaches, and very few players got you 8-5 with better competition last year. THE SYSTEM must kinda suck arse without a few breaks.

No discipline,
Disagree with you. If anything, many believe our depth issues are related to Miles removing players prematurely (not RP, but others).

No . . . ., leadership,
Agree 100%. After Dorsey, Flynn & Hester, name one, stand-out leader on this team? You cannot, because there aren't any players who want to seriously take the reins of leadership. And I'm not talking about guys who get fired up on the field. Hell, Beckwith did that but he wasn't a leader.

Nailed it.

Not obsessed with Saban but won't deny the obvious either. People also need to realize what Saban walked into (total disarray) compared to what Miles walked into (A Nat'l championship team waiting to happen) and quit comparing their early records as it's apples and oranges. 4 yrs + is the telling tale on any coach as all remnants of the previous coach are then gone...

Saban left in 04. Therefore any player that had even a year under him was gone in 07. So you are making my point as this was the first year with players who had 0 Saban system installed in them.
