Ruby Slipper is by far my favorite place when it comes to good old fashioned breakfast food. You wouldn't think any one place could be that much better than the other but these people know how to cook breakfast food.

While I think Huevos is good, I definitely wouldn't put it in the top 5. I'd put EAT and Surrey's above Huevos.

Anyone been to the new restaurant which opened in the former Blue Bird. I noticed it was open this past weekend.

Camellia Grill for the whole experience.

Since The Clover Grill in the Quarter is open 24 hours, it's a lifesaver at 4am after a drunken stupor on Bourbon St. and needs an honorable mention in this thread. Under those circumstances, you'd swear that it's the best food you've ever eaten.

You never advanced past this phase?

I was in Broken Egg in Mandeville this morning, and one of the customers was showing the lady that owns the restaurant the printout of the article. If you go to the link, the picture of the food on the left side is from the Broken Egg. It's not in New Orleans and NOLA is using there pics for the "best of".

Agree to disagree. It's definitely in my top 3 along with Elizabeth's and Stanley.

Never been to any of these 4 - I looked at the menu for Stanley and considered going yesterday morning, but we ended up at Betsy's Pancake House instead - Betsy's was delicious - I had pecan belgien waffle and a perfectly cooked egg over easy - husband had shortstack (that was huge), egg, grits, toast, and sausage - we both had coffee - everything was great and good portions and the bill was only $19 - I hate going places like the Broken Egg and getting a bill for $30+ before tip for breakfast - sorry but breakfast should not cost that much - its just breakfast.
I like a cheep diner breakfast also. But, I can't get eggs benidict at a diner without the eggs coming out completely cooked. A great breakfast place will cook my eggs really runny, and I am willing to pay for that ability, along with real napkins, and a server with all their teeth. If an egg cost 10 cents to buy, and table service, and napkins, and happy servers, and all the other things that make the more expensive breakfast places the way I like them more expensive; then so be it. It's my dollar to enjoy.

I very much agree with this.
Of course breakfast is supposed to be cheap, but there is a difference in going somewhere and just getting eggs, bacon, and toast and paying $5 vs going somewhere and getting something better and paying more.
For the guy quoting $30 for breakfast at the Broken Egg, you must be eating for three people. I can get out of there with a damn fine meal for well under $20 after tip.
I don't get to eat breakfast in the city much these days, but I had the chance last Sunday and struck out at three places on a Sunday. Huevos had 15 people waiting for the small number of tables when I got there.
Russells Marina Grill(my usual spot when I go) had a line out the door. The Point or whatever it is called across the street seemed like it was going to work, but after standing by the hostess area for 15 minutes while I watched 2 people crazily try to service all of the tables, I gave up on that too.

went there for a late dinner on Saturday and the experience was the best part! The food was pretty good, but watching them in action and rattling off orders was amazing.

I don't know what you are ordering, but I ordered a waffle with a side of bacon and my husband ordered a plate of breakfast, it was eggs, sausage, grits, toast, we both had coffee and the bill was like $29 - and the eggs sucked, ordered over easy and they came out with hard yellows.

Sorry Maggie for saying you were a guy.
I thought the $30 was for one person. Guess I am not awake enough this morning.
I still say that eating in the Broken Egg in Mandeville is worth it. The old cottage setting at the great service staff or worth whatever the extra cost is above alot of breakfast places.
My second favorite place for breakfast is the Peppermill in Metairie, and they are about what the Broken Egg is price wise, maybe a touch cheaper.

Love Betsy's. I have been going there since I was little and still get excited when the staff greets me with that "Hayy Babbay." Sure do miss Ms. Betsy....
The Ruby Slipper is good, but I think they are overpriced only because I compare them to Betsy's...

It was my first trip to Betsy's and I will return for sure.
Yes, it is terrible what happend to her - its ironic that she worked in the city and then gets killed in her own home in a suburb -in a pretty quiet neighborhood.

Went to Oceania for breakfast last Saturday and got all excited when they gave us Petunia's menus to order from. But, food wasn't anything to get excited over. We only got about half the portion they gave out at Petunia's. Looks like they still use the same crawfish cream sauce over the omelets but we didn't order omlets. Hubby ordered the big breakfast with eggs, grits, potatoes, bacon and biscuit for $11. Not too bad.
