Shepard's "70" yard TD....

Why is Shepard getting credit for a 69 yard TD when the back of the ball was touching the 30 yd line. I thought they round up. Not that it really matters....it's just an observation. It sounds better to say it's a 70 yd TD. Check the link at about the 50 second mark.

They round down. You always here them say forth and a long 2 instead of 3 for example. Not that any of it matters.

It always depends on what side of the field you're on...
for instance, if we have the ball at our own one-inch line, it's considered that the ball is on the 1-yard line, not the 0-yard line. So even if just the tip of the ball crosses the 1-yard line, the ball is now considered to be on the 2-yard line.
If part of the ball crosses our own 49-yard line, we are now on the 50. If the tip of the ball crosses mid-field, we are now on the opposition's 49-yard line.
So on this play, since most of the ball was just past the 30-yard line, the ball was considered to be on the 31-yard line... hence the 69-yard TD run.
Either that - or stats keepers hate LSU.

I was just curious. I'm not sure what the general rule is.

I'm sure it has to do with the "official" spot of the ball.

How dare the people who record stats cheat Shepard a whole yard, statisticians hate LSU!

So by that rationale, when it's fourth and goal from the 6in mark, why is it 4th and goal from the one? It's on the other team's side of the fifty?
Awe Hell. It doesn't matter. Kind of like comparing Jason to Freddy.
