Cant anyone make a decent game that doesnt have some fricked up glitch or flaw. I guess not.

America is all about profits not quality. Just ask our car makers how thats working out for them.

Lets see. Do you really think a company is going to sit on a game for years while it is in QA when they can have it on the shelves? With consoles these days being hooked up to the internet for updates, they can get them out even faster and then when we (the real testers) find an issue they can supply a patch.

Correct. Even CoD4 wasn't perfect when it was released. It needed several things patched/added. The grenade, airstrike and chopper kill cams were patched add ons. The sniper rifles had to have their accuracies patched.

I guess it does suck for those that aren't hooked up to their console's interweb networks because they don't get the updates. I'm all for patches and support. It's a beautiful thing.

And it is more exciting to see what we are getting to. How cool is it to pay $10 and be able to download some new maps for COD4 or GTA or anything like that.

It's awesome. Even though I haven't even gotten through the first episode of GTA with Nikko, and barely even did the first mission in The Lost and Damned, I'm all hopped up for the Ballad of Gay Tony. That's basically three games in one. Awesome.

My point is its all about pumping out half-arse games backed up with marketing. Most people just accept this. COD W@W is a perfect example. Could have improved on a great game but fell short.

And what do you do?

Go make a "decent game" that is perfect in every which way, then come and bitch about other games not being absolutely perfect.

All developers are saddled with unrealistic schedules to get products released to meet quarterly earnings statements so that CEOs can fatten their pockets.

Another aspect of problems with putting out a "bugless" game is that games today are so freaking huge (code-wise) and there is so much to do that the ONLY way you can be thorough about it is by tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of customers playing it (the same goes for MMO's, call it "The EverQuest Rule of Quality Testing" if you will).

100,000 people playing a game are much more likely to find flaws, bugs, etc. than 40 people playing it.

These two have a positive correlation. Unfortunately, we as consumers have no standards. Therefore the cycle of complacency continues.

I've been beta testing games for years upon years. For example, I beta tested The Sims Online years ago, and it was fixed and tweaked until the release, but when it finally did release, there were bugs none of us had ever encountered like all of your Simoleons just...disappearing. You can't test every bug out because you'll get bugs that you can't repro or there'll be isolated incidents.

Look at Halo 2's superbounce. That was undetectable until someone accidentally did it. It was unfixable also. Software is incredibly hard to fully test too.
