innovation, imagination in football

It has often seemed to me that the VAST majority of
football coaches are the followers (the sheep), and only a very few are the shepherds. If some other coach introduces an innovation, the "sheep" rush to try it, whether it's really worthwhile or not in the application at hand. Exhibit A: "check with me" in a system with an inexperienced QB and struggling O-line. Other than the field goal pitch against S.C. in '07, anything innovative, creative on offense lately? Along these lines - it's my understanding that the receiver of a kickoff may PASS the ball forward if he catches it in the air and doesn't otherwise advance it. Anyone know about this? Now THAT would be innovative (and score a touchdown).

i'm pretty sure that rule no longer is in play, we would have seen someone try to exploit by now.
