1)Play calling(esp in the redzone)
2)getting shep more involved at different looks
3)big plays in the passing game

I think that if these three things are taken seriously this week in practice and are executed right, it will open up the running game. The running game will allow us to keep long sustained drives that end with 7 and thats what we need against UF.
We have to back Spikes up a couple steps and make them play reactive defense on their heels. If we can back Spikes and the saftey up, then I believe Scott can average 4 yards a carry and I will take that all day against a UF defense.

I think our defense is shaping up and gelling out there. UF's wideouts arent as strong as last year and thats their achilles tendon. We have to force Tebow/Brantley to throw the ball and beat us in the air.

Now i know there are other things such as defensive line getting more pressure but I believe that is more of a personel issue than coaching. I just dont know what to do about that problem. I guess that will be our achilles tendon on defense.

Shep needs to learn the play book... he keeps putting the ball on the turf. do you want to risk that versus a team like Florida?

Won't happen. Hanagriff made a good point on the post-game show Saturday. We tried to give him different looks @ UGA and he had to call TO twice. For whatever reason he's just not ready to be fully unleashed.

This. However, I think the bigger issue is run AND pass blocking, which IMO will in turn allow better playcalling. As critical as I've been about playcalling, after watching Saturday, it's obvious there aren't a ton of options with gaping holes for the D to run through.

ETA: After reading you post again, I think improved OLINE play will allow for 2 and 3 to open up as well.

I'd like to see Jefferson improve his approach on the option and I think that some minor tweaks to his technique could bring enormous gains.

the playcalling will be a little better by sat. shep is getting calls to run inside they need to get him outside to hit the corners.we made changes in the defense just for the flordia game.carl moore and the other tall reciever for flordia they are not aj green so i don't see them beating use for anything like last sat. it is going to be closer than a lot of people think with us on top.28-21 lsu

The question should be what needs to improve or be changed.Just go to SEC Digital network and watch the two fourth down plays we got stopped from a foot away and see the center and left guard get stuffed on both plays.Last weeks Tiger Rag issue said a lot of the problems lie at the big feet of T-Bob Hebert.

1.) Varying drops by Jefferson, rollouts.

2.) Dline containment

3.) Different zone looks for the D.

That would be my three.

O-line keeps going 3 and out keeping D-line on the field. Net rushing against Miss St-30 yds. The opposition keeps running twice as many plays as LSU.If you can't block up front, even Kevin Faulk wouldn't be able to run and he was one of the best.

Better run and pass blocking, instruct JJ to not hold on to the ball too long. JJ not allowed to run the option, or if he does, teach him to do it right.

1. Jefferson attacking the edge on the option inside of stringing things out. He should go watch tape of that Notre Dame QB in the late 80s (Tony Rice?). Best technical running of the option I have seen at the QB spot (of course, the '95 Nebraska team ran the option as a whole better than anyone--Rice was just phenomenal at attack the end, getting commitment from the defense and then pitching it.

2. A healthy offensive line. We are what we are and that's mediocre. But hopefully we won't be battling both mediocrity and the flu.

Final note: I don't get people bitching about the play-calling. It was a well called game. You do realize that when Gary calls the play, he cannot make the players execute it properly?

I think the fan support will be improved from the previous games just by the nature of this game.

Little extra shot of adreneline can make a difference of an inch or two here or there that can impact the game in bigger ways.
