Nice article! I agree that LSU defense will be much better off having played that game. Going against a good QB the first game is much more helpful than going up against some 1AA team that isnt very good.

I'm not sure of what Cutrera is supposed to say. "Yeah, we've looked at tape of Vandy and I think we'll give up 450+ again." They have to say that they've corrected mistakes and will play better. I hope like hell that they do, and I believe they will. But Jake said what he's supposed to say.

LSU first-year defensive coordinator John Chavis said this week that he thought his guys were in too much of a “thinking mode.” Chavis wants to seem them play more instinctively against the Commodores.

"Don't tell me, show me"

this...bigtime. Until the LSU defense shows me that it can consistantly handle the isolation plays that opposing ocoords are using to hammer us I will have to remain guardedly optimistic. A three and out to start the Vandy game would be a nice start.
Do you think if we win the toss Miles will reverse the practice of deferring the choice thereby putting the offense on the field with the intent of making somebody else have to play from behind?

Hell no. We need the ball to start the 2nd half b/c we're always in a bind and need to score at half time.

jb2010 as far as chavis having to say they are working to correct those mistakes.....seriously? no he has to actually work to correct them. do you really think hes just talking the talk and ....what? playing xbox? i wouldnt say i want to see night and day because i saw some good things....i just hope they are more comfortable with the schemes and went over tackling over and over and over and over and over.... you get the point,

I don't know about any of you, But personally this sounds A LOT better than having players admit they don't know anything on Defense like last year.

Cutrera said. “For us to keep the focus and come out with the win will make us a better team. We matured, got the first game out of the way and all the rust knocked off. It may not have looked great, but that game’s going to help this defense down the road.”

I agree.
