Dan Jenkins the National Football Foundation's historian has a new article in this months foundation news:
The Definitive Retroactive Heisman Memorial Trophy...
His 1908 winner is Doc Fenton

It is a very good pick by a fine fellow football historian.
Doc played End, QB, FB and HB for LSU in 1908.
Starting at end 2 games and QB in 8, moving to HB anf FB at times when Albright came in at QB later in the season.

Doc Fenton is the father of my husband's stepfather and he told this story: Doc Fenton came down from the North to play football for Mississippi State. On his way to Starkville, he stopped in Baton Rouge. While in Baton Rouge some good LSU fans advised Doc that he couldn't possibly want to live in Starkville because MSU was located in a "dry" county. Doc being the good Irishman that he was...wholeheartedly agreed...and stayed in Baton Rouge to play for the Tigers! He is one of the greatest athletes to wear a LSU uniform. Great honor and well-deserved!
